  1. PROBLEM STATEMENT

Create a compact and elegant IoT system that can measure

temperature, humidity, illuminance, CO2, and tVOCs in an indoor space.

2. CONSTRAINTS

  • should not have any exposed wires outside
  • should include a visual logo or graphic representing Steven's identity
  • must be able to measure the five different physical quantities (temperature, humidity, illuminance, CO2 and tVOCs) at a given time interval
  • based on the measured values of carbon dioxide and tVOC values the system must be able to provide the user with brief information about the indoor air quality (e.g. good, moderate, bad) using LEDs
  • the measured information must be automatically stored and logged on Stevens' MQTT server in real-time according to a given sampling interval

3. PRELIMINARY DESIGNS

  • Support for stability and security of boards and other inside components
  • Only one opening for the photocell and LEDs
  • More open room for breadboard, WeMos board, and wires
  • Opening for the photocell and each of the LEDs

4. SELECTED DESIGN

Dimensions & Shape:

  • 120mm x 100mm x 75mm
  • 5mm shell thickness
  • Rectangular box shape

Properties:

  • Openings for all sensors to be exposed to the air and light
  • Opening for LEDs
  • Bolt holes for keeping the WeMos board and sensors stable and secure

Why This Design:

  • More open space for boards and wires inside the enclosure
  • Photocell is more exposed to the light
  • LEDs are more visible on the outside of the enclosure
