Things to work on during the summer so your child can

hit the ground running on the first day of school:

  1. Name all upper and lowercase letters quickly in random order
  2. Write their name with an uppercase for

the first letter, & lowercase for the

remaining letters.

  • Count without mistakes to 20.

Self Care

Additional things to work on during the summer:

  • Be 100% potty trained:
    1. flush,
    2. wipe,
    3. wash hands
  • Tie their shoes (if wearing laces)
  • Snap/Zip pants
  • Independently put on jackets/coats
  • Blow their nose, not just wipe

Important Info

  • No lighted shoes or lighted snow boots
  • Refer to the uniform policy when buying school clothes!
  • Full size backpacks only
  • Water bottles- best with a handle
  • Headphones
  • No smart phones/watches
    • If you must send them to school they need to be

off and in your child’s backpack

Things to work on during the summer to help your child eat lunch at school: (applies to full day kindergarten students only)

  • eat lunch within 25 minutes
  • sit and eat until they are finished without getting up out of their seat
  • open food packages independently (i.e. opening pudding cups, opening chip bags, putting straws in juice boxes, etc.)
  • Practice what to keep and what to throw away (i.e. keep tupperware, please throw away opened juice box even if not finished, etc.)
  • Practice appropriate table manners
