RESEARCH PROBLEM

Since the 1980s, there has been a significant advancement in the use of technology in the classroom. Many educators have had to adjust their methods because of the impact that computers have had on their profession. Because it allows for the immediate retrieval of information, technology is an absolutely necessary component of today's educational environment. Students in today's classrooms have spent their entire lives in a world that is heavily reliant on various forms of technology.

In spite of this familiarity with technology, educational environments may be hesitant to integrate technology into the classroom or to sustain the frequency with which technology is used in the classroom.

By carrying out this project, many different variables are taken into account in order to examine and analyze the perceptions that our instructors have regarding the implementation of technology in their classrooms.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The present project is significant because it enables us to analyse teachers’ perception towards the use of technology in the classroom. As we are moving towards the 21st Learning where the use of technology is starting to become vital, it is important for us to study the attitude of teachers towards changing their approaches in education with the help of technology.

It is also crucial for us to analyse whether student’s improvement and classroom management are affected by this. This is also important as we can find out whether schools involvement in providing necessary tools for teachers may or may not encourage them to integrate technology use in their classroom.

This project can contribute to the understanding of how technology integrations affect the teachers and what are the innovative improvement method that can be taken by schools to encourage the use of technology in the class.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

This study will only focus on a minor group of teachers that teaches private tuition centers around Bintulu, Sarawak. Hence, we might encounter a limited access to the data that could help future researchers understand more deeply about our teacher’s perception as their personal preferences and underlying personal factors might taken into account. Next, the students that goes to the tuition centers are mostly Chinese. Hence, the results of this study in which the students improvement and their acceptance towards the use of technology could affect certain researchers who focuses more on a wider group of students who came from multi-language school or background.

RELATED LITERATURE REVIEW

As there is a limited literature review on the project research regarding teachers' perception towards the use of technology in the classroom, I will be only referring to general sources online as a guide and fully conducting my own project based on the questionnaire that will answered by my teachers to further analyze the acceptance and perceptions of teachers towards implementing technology usage in the classroom.

RESEARCH METHOD / DESIGN

This study utilized a descriptive survey design to explore perception of teachers towards the use of technology in their classroom. The research design is one where data is being collected and analyzed from only a few people that are considered representative of the entire population. Based on that, I have developed questionnaire and finalized it before being distributed to targets respondent group.

SAMPLING METHOD / SIZE

A population of 20 teachers from a private tuition called Joyful Schooling Programme (JSP) participated in the study. The respondents technology demonstration competence are not taken into account and they will be purely answering the questionnaire based on their basic knowledge of technology and mainly following their own technology usage frequency in the classroom. This involved two types of data which is primary and secondary data. The primary data will be collection by gathering statistics and data from the questionnaire that will be answered by the respondents. Meanwhile, the secondary data will be reading previous journals, articles, books and guidelines collected from which are related to the study conducted to gain more information that are needed.

INSTRUMENTATION

This study uses a close ended survey questionnaire with a total of four (4) sections that will be answered by 20 teachers. These four sections are consisted of :

    • Personal information of teacher
    • Teacher’s attitude towards technology (Likert-scale)
    • Usage frequency of teaching tools in your teaching
    • Teacher’s perception on usage of technology tools in the classroom (Likert-scale)

DATA COLLECTING METHOD / PROCEDURE

This study will use a Likert-scale online questionnaire that requires teacher to answer regarding their attitude and perception towards technology teaching in the classroom. Some of the question will asks about their personal information such as teaching experience, level of highest education and their age to see whether it can be related to their positive or negative perceptions towards teaching technology in the classroom.

Classroom management and students acceptance towards teacher’s teaching technology will be taken into account too in order to observe the effectiveness of technology teaching towards student’s improvement.

School’s involvement will also be evaluated to see whether receiving helps and encouragement from schools in terms of technology tools preparation could help teachers to better carry out their lessons in classroom.

DATA ANALYZE METHOD

Data analysis is the process of collecting, modeling, and analyzing data by making use of a wide variety of statistical and logical methodologies and procedures is referred to as data analysis.

Data analysis method that will be used in this project is the thematic analysis. The fundamental distinction between content analysis and thematic analysis is that the former can be applied to quantitative data as well. Both help to uncover and explain patterns in qualitative data. The thematic approach organizes huge amounts of text material, such as transcripts from interviews or focus groups, according to recurring topics or themes. It's an excellent tool for gathering information about how people feel about an issue.
