Does your club use social media to promote communication? If so, how?
Since 2017, the Arlington High School Key Club has been using social media to post all events and any activities corresponding with Key Club. With even more emphasis as of last year. We post about every meeting, every single event, and any updates or urgencies which we see as important for all key club members to know about. To further promote communication, Key Club also has our website linked directly in our bio of our Instagram account.
It makes it easily visible and available to all Key Club members. It features our “About Us” page, “Events” page, “Members Hour Submissions” etc… While our primary focus regarding social media is our Instagram page, we have also recently started a Key Club Tik Tok account as well. While it’s a recent startup, it’s another way we have begun to try to communicate with other members, who may not have an Instagram account. While our Instagram account’s primary focus is to notify all members of future and occurring events, we also focus on answering all member’s questions which they have. Whether it’s regarding a donation, fundraiser, or event. Our officers who run and manage the Instagram account answer all questions which members have sent us.
However, most members don’t seem to have too many questions about our events. All due to the fact that our social media posts are made to explain all Key Club events in a way as simple to understand as possible. We add a nice visual and a quick explanation on every single post we have made. More focus especially on calendars and dates so as many Key Club members can be prepared for our meetings as possible. Since the sole purpose of social media is to bring members together and promote the Key Club values.

Fundraising Events
This year we have many fundraising events planned. So far we’ve started our Concession stand where we sell snacks and drinks during our 2nd and 8th passing period. Selling snacks has always been a huge hit because of our low price of one dollar and the variety we have within our snacks. Last week on Friday we had our annual MiniMum making, everyone who showed got to make a cute mum pin for their backpacks or water bottles for only 2 dollars. We had mum flowers and ribbons.
We had our officers there to help the students make their mums or help them plan it out. For our next fundraiser we plan on buying mini pumpkins so the students can paint and keep them. We would only charge two dollars for them, and we would bring all the supplies necessary like the paint, paint brushes, and most importantly the pumpkins. In October we plan on doing another annual project; Trick or Treating for Unicef. In this fundraiser we plan to use boxes provided by the Kiwanans in partnership with Builders Club and Key club to raise money for building wells for those less fortunate in the Zambian community. This is very important because one of our core values is caring, and this fundraiser has that specific value at the forefront.
Another fundraising event we hold is face painting at our home sporting events. As a group we create time shifts and evenly split the hours we wanna work face painting. We usually get a lot of sales and we are the only group at our school to do this so it is easy for us to attract a lot of people. With the money we make from this fundraiser we are donating it to sharefest which is an organization that helps families move out of abusive relations and into a new home. We were interested in this organization because October is Domestic Violence Awareness month so that is one of the ways we will be giving back and showing care for these victims.
