ABSTRACT

Internet of Things (IoT) technology has brought revolution to each and every field of common man’s life by making everything smart and intelligent. IoT refers to a network of things which make a self turning the face of agriculture production by not only enhancing it but also making it cost-effective and reducing wastage. The aim / objective of this report is to propose IoT based Smart Farming System assisting farmers in getting Live Data (Temperature, Soil Moisture,Humidity,Ph,NPK,) for efficient environment monitoring which will enable them to increase their overall yield and quality of products. The IoT based Smart Farming System being proposed via this report is integrated with Aurdino Technology mixed with different Sensors and a Wi-Fi module producing live data feed that can be obtained .

Introduction of IOT

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a system of interrelated, internet-connected objects that are able to collect and transfer data over a wireless network without human intervention.

What is IOT?

IOT in Agriculture

As a result of the declining agricultural workforce, adoption of internet connectivity solutions in farming practices has been triggered, to reduce the need for manual labor.

IOT APPLICATION OF IOT IN AGRICULTURE

1. Precision Farming

Precision farming, also known as precision agriculture, is anything that makes the whole process of farming accurate and controlled when it comes to raising livestock and growing crops.

2. Agricultural Drones

Agricultural drones are a prime example of this development. Drones are being used in the agricultural sector to enhance many farming practices.

3. Livestock Monitoring

Owners of large farms utilize wireless IoT applications to track the location, health, and well-being of their cattle.

4. Smart Greenhouses

A smart greenhouse can be created with the help of IoT. These smart greenhouses intelligently monitor and control the climate without requiring any sort of manual intervention.

5. Monitor Climate Conditions

IoT solutions enable the farmers to know real-time weather conditions.

6. Remote sensing

IoT based remote sensing makes use of sensors placed along the farms such as weather stations for accumulating data that is carried forward to analytical tools for analysis.

What Does Arduino Mean?

Arduino refers to an open-source electronics platform or board and the software used to program it. Arduino is designed to make electronics more accessible to artists, designers, hobbyists and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. An Arduino board can be purchased pre-assembled or, because the hardware design is open source, built by hand. Either way, users can adapt the boards to their needs, as well as update and distribute their own versions.

The ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module is a self contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that can give any microcontroller access to your Wi-Fi network. The ESP8266 is capable of either hosting an application or offloading all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor. Each ESP8266 module comes pre-programmed with an AT command set firmware, meaning, you can simply hook this up to your Arduino device and get about as much Wi-Fi-ability as a Wi-Fi Shield offers (and that's just out of the box)! The ESP8266 module is an extremely cost effective board with a huge, and ever growing, community.

SENSORS

A sensor is a device that measures physical input from its environment and converts it into data that can be interpreted by either a human or a machine. Most sensors are electronic (the data is converted into electronic data), but some are more simple, such as a glass thermometer, which presents visual data. People use sensors to measure temperature, gauge distance, detect smoke, regulate pressure and a myriad of other uses.

POWER SUPPLY

16 of 27

RECHARGEABLE BATTERY

  • The sealed lead-acid (SLA) 12V, 9Ah rechargeable battery is rated at a 5-hour (0.2) and 20-hour because of lower losses. (0.05C) discharge. Longer discharge times produce higher capacity readings.
  • The lead-acid performs well on high load currents. This battery act as an internal power supply for the whole circuit.

BATTERY CHARGING CIRCUIT WITH TRANSFORMER

The circuit acts as a 12 volt battery charger for Lead Acid battery. It gives 12 partially discharged, full charge will be attained in one hour. The circuit is volt and 5 Amps current for quick charging of the battery. If the battery is DC. Since pulsed DC is good for Lead Acid battery, a low value smoothing connected with a 0-14 volt 5 Ampere Step down transformer to convert AC to capacitor is used in the circuit .In the circuit, LED act as the Charger on status.

EXTERNAL AC ADAPTER

  • The adapter can directly act as an AC/DC convertor to provide pure DC current externally to the circuit.
