How do I achieve in this class?

Come to class ON TIME and ready to work every day. If you miss a technique or a studio day, it is YOUR responsibility to make up what you missed. The studio is available to you during office hours, before/after school, lunch and during study hall periods. HOWEVER, I will not be available to reteach unless you were out due to a medical emergency.

Put forth your greatest effort every day. Tell me if you are having a hard time focusing on doing your best work so we can work on a solution.

TAKE CARE of your assignments and materials. Make sure that assignments are clean and presentable for display. Turn your assignments in on time. A thoughtfully prepared reflection sheet should accompany each of your photographed assignments in order to receive a grade.

General Procedures

Each Unit will have 3 parts: the assignment(sketchbook and practice work), the execution (artwork) and critique or evaluation.

In lou of extended projects due each quarter, you will be researching an artist to inspire a “final” artwork for each semester. We will “flip” the classroom so that you learn about the artist and his/her art movement outside of class and create a piece inspired by your research during your final exam time.

Sketchbooks

In your sketchbooks you will sketch ideas for your projects as well as collect text and imagery that is meaningful to you. Your sketchbook should illustrate an ongoing sense of exploration. Notes, source images and other inspirational drawings you create will allow project ideas to begin flowing into your head more easily the more you continue working in your sketchbook.

YOU CANNOT PASS THIS CLASS WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT WORK IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK; THEY PLAY A HUGE PART OF YOUR LEARNING IN THIS CLASS.

Unit Work

Your sketchbook will be utilized in conjunction for each unit. It provides a storehouse for your experimentation, research, ideas, note taking, etc.

Each unit consists of the following:

Record: Ideas, feelings, observations, information

Research: pictures, writings, vocabulary, information which will inform and shape your learning

Play: Experimentation with technique, medium or idea for fun

Practice: Working to perfect techniques, ideas, forms, etc

Plan: Envisioning the project’s process, step by step

The Execution

You must have all unit components completed before you begin your execution. This may require you to work outside of class if you are not present everyday.

If you do not complete the execution in the time given, you can only receive half credit for incomplete work. You will need to manage your art time during this process to make sure you are creating quality work and not wasting your time, my time, or the time of your classmates.

Supplies will not be allowed to leave this room if you do not finish. It is your responsibility to meet deadlines.

The SEmester Ahead...

We are not all artists, nor do we possess the same interests and talents, likes or dislikes. We do, however, all possess the ability to be positive and to put forth an honest effort, which is all that you will ever be expected. If your attitude is positive, the class and your artwork will be great! Thank you for your cooperation and the promise to participate to the best of your ability! I am looking forward to an awesome semester of artwork and memories in room 332!
