Immigration
Lack of action taken to reach out to immigrants, leaving them insufficient representation that interferes with their immigration status and rights.
The recent U.S Census data has shown that New York’s immigrant, or foreign-born population largely stopped growing during the previous decade.
Work to help develop policies and enact legislation that attracts more immigrants as well as policies that make life easier for immigrants already living in the state. Attorneys assisting in the application process.
Marto can work to improve access to affordable housing for all immigrants, implement greater language access, expand access to economic opportunities, and ensure that immigrant families can live without fear of family separation.
Key Social Issue
Our Solution
Persecution
Within these communities there is a general lack of knowledge amongst the queer population. The general lack of knowledge has to do with not knowing what really takes place within law firms as they do not feel safe or comfortable enough to join them.
Raise awareness on rights and rules and provide information on different programs and benefits by hosting workshops during pride month (June) welcoming everyone of all backgrounds to learn, not only LGBTQ+.
Build a partnership with NYC Pride in order to inform the public about what takes place within a firm. Also make the effort to hold sensitivity sessions that make it easier for queer people to exist within the workforce.
Key Social Issue
Our Solution
Poverty
Individuals within impoverished communities face the growing issue of gentrification uprooting them from their homes. Local businesses are being bought and kicked out of their neighborhoods and communities.
Offer more opportunities for the immigrants by doing pro bono work on their cases. For these cases provide information (finances, language translation, work opportunities) they may be in need of but lack.
Partnering with organizations such as ANHD (Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development) and Communities Resist who are working to fight against gentrification in communities and neighborhoods all around the five boroughs of NYC.

Projects in Bohlman Towers
Bohlman Towers is a public housing building in Peekskill largely populated by immigrants, people of color and low income families. With the push to seemingly modify Peekskill for upper-class newcomers there’s been a drastic rise in rent prices leaving many with no other option but to leave.
Dentons can act as an advocate and support system for these people. Offering free legal counsel and pro-bono services to those in need. This can be observed in the form of door to door interviews. Community workshops held at the Peekskill Family Resource Center & Youth Bureau. Advising residents on their rights and alternative places to seek housing.
Additionally most residents predominate language is Spanish which directly appeals to the diversity amongst Dentons employees making them the best and most trusted choice for legal help.

The Westchester Power Program
Launched in 2015, Sustainable Westchester has made a commitment to the Westchester Power Program. An initiative dedicated to supplying Westchester County residents with renewable– greener energy.
With Dentons commitment to sustainability in mind this sets the perfect foundation for a budding partnership with this organization. Employees can use this outreach and new found demographics to educate a wide range of residents on the benefits of this program and more specifically how it mitigates the effect of climate change.
Through this connection Dentons can advocate for the extension of this program into larger businesses through the Westchester area. Highlighting the importance of sustainability while building permanent ties to the residents and their community.
