Yearbook Staff 2020-21

Welcome to the new members and returning members of the yearbook staff! This is an outline of the expectations for this course and an effective grading policy that communicates what each student needs to accomplish regarding their daily work ethic and meeting deadlines.

*Please note that the class expectations will be flexible based on school/district guidelines.

Expectations

  • Staff will communicate with each other if help is needed to finish pages as well as to report the status of assigned pages. Everyone is expected to work together as a team, assisting other yearbook staff members to complete assignments when help is requested in a timely manner.
  • Staff will make arrangements to come in early or stay after school in order to meet deadlines as needed. Completing high quality yearbook pages and meeting page deadlines is the most crucial aspect of being a part of the yearbook staff and, as such, accounts for the majority of a student’s yearbook class grade. The page deadlines will be posted on the Yearbook wall in the classroom and in the Google Classroom for this course.
  • Staff will report on page progress, actively participate, and make appropriate notes during daily class meetings on their individual ladder assignments-what is to be finished, available days to stay after school, any needed assistance, etc.
  • Staff are required to be available to take pictures at extracurricular and special activities outside of the normal school day. As a staff, students will work together to make sure that all school functions are covered.

Expectations cont.

  • Staff will conduct themselves appropriately while on the school campus (away from the classroom) for interviews, pictures, errands, etc.
  • Staff will utilize 10TH period as a work period for yearbook. Using yearbook class time wisely is key to meeting deadlines.
  • Staff may have to work from home on the internet to finish pages. If the internet is not available at home, those staff members should make arrangements with Mrs. Regan to stay after school or come in early.
  • As any issues/concerns arise, staff members should speak directly with the other staff member(s) involved, discuss the issue with the yearbook advisor privately, or bring the issue up during whole group meeting time at the beginning of class.

Grading Policy

  • Grades for yearbook will be based on progress of work, initiative, meeting goals, meeting deadlines, taking pictures of activities, and special projects (folio tabs, featured pages, portrait pages, etc.)
  • Students will be graded on whether they meet the deadline for each specific page spread. If the work completed on a specific spread requires little attention/revision from the yearbook advisor, the grade for that page would be a 100%. Unexcused late pages will result in a lowered grade of 5% each day.
