About the Chicago Cyclocross Cup

  • Starting in 2004 with just 4 races, the CCC has grown steadily and in 2016 will host 11 races over 10 weekends with 1 double race weekend.
  • 30% rider growth in 2008 & 2009, 15% in 2010 & 2011 leading to an average of over 530 riders at each race in 2011. Roughly 10% rider increase in 2012, 2013, & 2014 and plateauing in 2015. Exposure and momentum built in prior years, increased use of social media, and directors' intimate involvement in the Chicago area cycling culture.
  • Heavy spectator attendance and "involvement". Slower speeds near barriers, sand pits, and hills provides greater visibility of sponsor names and logos.
  • Photography and videography at races by both amateurs and professionals spawned the ChiCrossPhoto Collective's coffee table photo book and several professional videos.
  • The CCC website (chicrosscup.com) was revamped in 2009 to a blog format to more effectively disseminate information to riders and spectators. During the 2010 CX season (Sep-Dec) the CCC site averaged 60k (50k 2009) hits per month with a total of >100 posts and nearly 1,000 comments, leading to a strong online community as an extension of the series. The CCC also makes heavy use of Twitter and Instagram (starting in 2015) but is not on the Facebook.
  • The CCC gives back as well. Donations collected from racers & promoters during the 2009 and 2010 seasons were pooled and in December the CCC donated $3,400 and $7,102 respectively to World Bicycle Relief which provides "access to independence and livelihood through the Power of Bicycles" in developing nations. Starting in 2015 the CCC directed donations to Big Marsh, West Town Bikes, and Blackstone Bicycle Works.
  • The CCC draws riders from many demographics and age groups, from 9-year-old Juniors all the way up to 60+ Masters. Riders hail from IL, WI, IN, MI, & IA and represent all income levels.
