Flipped Classroom

Tips & Tricks:

  • Understand WHY you are choosing to use use a flipped classroom model and stay true to that purpose
  • Don’t flip your entire class ... Start with one unit or even one lesson. Then you can scrap, shift, or scale your model.
  • Keep videos brief (15 minutes).
  • If students don’t have access to videos at home, implement a station rotation model where students watch the video in class.
  • If students are choosing not to complete the work at home, have them watch the videos while everyone else is doing the hands-on practice.
  • Don’t feel like you have to record yourself. Find someone who’s already done it on YouTube.
  • Check out EdPuzzle or EduCanon to customize videos (even if you didn’t create them) to pause and have students answer questions throughout the video.
  • Begin class with an informal assessment to see what students need you to address in class.
