Test Scale

You will be using the Rockwell B scale.

This scale is suitable for Medium hard materials, low and medium carbon steels, brass, aluminum alloys etc.

Major Load: 100 kg

Penetrator: 1/16 ball

Dial Color: Red

Procedure

Zero the dial to the black dot before you begin.

Increase to Set

Position specimen in the anvil and (barely) increase the force to the “SET” point.

Zero the Barrel Dial

Carefully rotate the barrel dial toward you until the pin touches the clear viewfinder.

Apply Major Load

Increase the force up to the 100 kg level. If you go past 100, your test is invalid and must be redone.-

Return to “set” point

Release the major load and allow the pointer to return to the “set” point.

Read Value

You will be using the red scale.

Note the value of each mark by counting the marks between numbers.
