With 2 ½ yards of fabric with a 12-14” repeat, you can make 48 kaleidoscope hex blocks, each block unique.

Adding sashing changes the look, and this table runner shows a different way to arrange your triangles.

Basic Steps for a Kaleidoscope Quilt

  1. Identify the repeat in your fabric, and cut six identical strips, based on the repeat.
  2. Lay the 6 layers on top of each other and pin together with flathead pins. Be SURE the layers are PERFECTLY lined up.
  3. Cut into 3 ½ “ x 42” strips.
  4. Using a 60 degree ruler, cut equilateral triangles (with the top SA cut off) that are 3 ½ “ high, from the base to the seam allowance line at the top.
  5. If using sashing, cut strips 5 ¼” x 1”.
  6. Audition your triangles and determine how to stitch them together. Stitch sashing to the bottom of each triangle. Assemble in rows.

If you took Kay’s workshop on Wednesday, you’ll have more detailed instructions!
