Attendance

  • Doors open at 7:00 am. Students who are not in the classroom by 7:45 will be marked tardy. This includes students still eating breakfast in the cafeteria. We encourage you to get to school by 7:30 am. Students are dismissed at 2:15 pm.

  • The Faculty Parking Lot will be closed to traffic from 7:00 - 7:45 daily.

Attendance

  • Parents and Guardians may walk students into the building only on the first day of school.

  • If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home. (There is no longer an attendance award.)

Daily Schedule

  • Each teacher will have a schedule posted in her classroom, on the website, and in her syllabus as soon as possible.

  • For safety reasons, ALL transportation changes must be in writing. In an emergency, please call the office if you need to change your child’s transportation once the school day has begun. Early dismissals need to be before 1:45.

Curriculum

  • Students will be introduced to new content in all subject areas each week. The content is presented in a logical manner in which skills are built on one another. These rigorous skills are based on the South Carolina State Standards.

  • To find out more information about the sequence of our curriculum, refer to your teacher’s long range plan in her syllabus.

Grading

  • Grades can be accessed online using Backpack . Parents are responsible for setting up an account in Backpack. Report cards can be viewed on Backpack at the end of every 9 weeks.

  • Please refer to the syllabus for details on weighted calculation of grades based on the Greenville County 10-point grading scale.

Personalized Learning Devices

  • All students in 2nd grade will be issued a Chromebook by the school. These devices will be used daily.

  • All students have a district provided username and password. The Personalized Learning Devices will only work with Greenville County School District credentials and have enhanced security to ensure your student’s internet safety.

  • Chromebooks will be distributed within the first few weeks of school and will remain in the classroom.

School Behavior Expectations

  • Be prepared to work hard and have a positive attitude. We believe in YOU, and we expect you to believe in yourself! To find out more information about behavior expectations, please refer to your teacher’s classroom behavior policy in her syllabus.

  • Water fountains will be available; Students may bring an insulated water bottle.

Parent Expectations

  • Parents are to use the orange 2023-2024 school year car tags. Please hang the tag so that your number is clearly visible to dismissal team.

  • Create a Backpack Account (This is how you will access your child’s grades.) Instructions for this process are in the Panda Packet.

  • Check for communication from your child’s teacher daily. (green folder and email)

Parent Expectations

  • Join the Plain Elementary social media outlets. (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and school website)

  • Listen to the weekly phone blast from our administrators. (Sunday at 3 p.m.)

  • Complete Parent Information 2023- 2024 form and the early dismissal form in the classroom before you leave this evening.

Cafeteria

  • You may eat lunch with your child at a designated table in our cafeteria Monday- Thursday beginning after Labor Day. All visitors need to be a Level 2 Volunteer. Please see Plain Elementary website for more information.

  • On Fridays we will have school-wide “Picnic Fridays” where we will eat outside or in our classroom. Due to limited seating, visitors will not be able to eat with students on Friday.

Field Trips

  • We have tentatively scheduled field trips for this school year. If you would like to attend any field trips, please fill out the Volunteer Level 2 form. The link to the form can be found on our Plain Elementary School website.

eLearning Information

(Inclement Weather Days)

  • Be punctual for daily Google Meets with your teacher and classmates. Teachers will take attendance at 7:45 am. Teachers will teach lessons throughout the school day.

  • Parents and siblings should not attend daily class meeting sessions unless invited to do so by the teacher.

Final Notes

  • We would love to have time to speak with each of you individually, but there will be many distractions tonight. If there is something important you feel that your teacher needs to know about your child, please email your child’s teacher and request a conference.
