Why Add in a Quality Assurance Tool?

  • Working to improve fidelity to the CG model
  • Some components for data collection and supervision were missing
  • Part of other model improvements

Getting Started

  • Rolled out QIVCs in phases, one cluster or project area at a time
  • Trained a group of staff when a CG module ended
  • Provide support to a smaller group of staff at the beginning
  • Paid promoters are supervised twice monthly, 1 surprise visit per month
  • Volunteers are supervised by promoters once every three months

Challenges

  • Covid-19
  • List is too long
  • Balancing time for admin work / supervision visits
  • Feedback – steps are skipped, meetings are postponed
  • Making use of previous QIVC scores to track progress

Solutions

  • Provided further refreshers on QIVC use to support staff using QIVCs.
  • Began looking back at previous scores to see improvements.
  • Will be making modifications to the checklist to shorten it.
  • Will create a shorter version for volunteers.

Lessons Learned

  • For implementation of QIVCs mid-project, phasing in the QIVC allows for small groups of staff to be trained and supported as they get started.
  • To create an effective QIVC, it’s important to include those being supervised in the process in order to gain their perspective on what to include in the list.
  • Provide regular refreshers to ensure effective use of the QIVC.
