THE CITY-BUSINESS CLIMATE ALLIANCE FORUM

The CBCA Forum is a network for leading cities, or leaders of local business networks, to exchange ideas on how cities can use their formal and informal powers to influence, regulate and collaborate with the private sector to achieve ambitious climate actions.

We achieve this by:

  • Facilitating peer-to-peer learning through city ‘buddying’, webinars, workshops and quarterly members’ meetings
  • Offering training to city economic development teams on emerging climate topics
  • Producing research, guides, interviews and case studies of successful city-business collaborations
  • Advising and supporting cities to develop local city-business climate alliances which will reduce city-level emissions, set joint commitments and deliver co-created projects.

Why are small & medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) important for the climate transition in cities?

5

Key city stakeholders & employers

Backbone of city economies + local solution providers

Increasing pressure to reduce GHG Emissions

Most vulnerable to climate impacts

SMEs employ between 50-70% of the world’s workforce and represent at least 90% of all global businesses

In most OECD countries, SMEs contribute more than 50% of GDP, with some estimating they contribute up to 70%

Large corporations report that supply chains, often SMEs, contribute 11.4 times more emissions than operational activities

Climate change compounds risks for businesses of all sizes. Yet, SMEs are most vulnerable given their localized supply chains, centralized infrastructure, and dependence on the communities in which they operate

The Climate Action Group is a community of organisations who are leading the way with climate action in Bristol. It is for those with ambitions to be carbon neutral by 2030 and a plan for reducing emissions.

Working together the group shares experiences and best practice, identify and implement solutions to challenges, and amplify the progress of members to support and inspire others.

Climate Leaders

42

Climate Leaders

There are certain criteria that need to be met to join the Climate Leaders group, including having a 2030 carbon neutral target, a plan in place for reducing emissions, and be monitoring scopes 1 and 2 and attempting to monitor scope 3.

Members of the group also need to share their carbon data each year, which we publish in our annual report. Currently there are 30 organisations in the group.
