• You will earn a certificate of recognition by completing sector related courses and engaging in Career Exploration & Community-Based Learning.

• Students will competencies and skills needed to make informed decisions as you successfully transition from high school to further education, training, and employment
• Improve student engagement and recognize students’ accomplishments and experiences in and out of school

• Increase awareness about education and career pathways in Nova Scotia

• Strengthen connections between education, community, and industry

• Connect educational options and experiences with the local labour market so students feel they have opportunities close to home in Nova Scotia.

Pre-IB Courses

SA Pre-IB courses available to potential IB students at Sydney Academy are offered in the following subject areas:

• SA Pre-IB English 10

• SA Pre-IB French 10 (may also be taken for the Integrated French Certificate)
• SA Pre-IB History 10
• SA Pre-IB Math 10 (full year)

• Instrumental Music 10 (for IB students)

Potential IB students may also wish to begin an Integrated French Certificate (Certificat en français intégré). To do so, a student will take the following courses in Grade 10:

• Please select 8 courses maximum on your sheet AND 2 ‘other courses’, in case your first choices are not available

• Please sign your form and have a Parent/Guardian sign your form after you have completed it

• If you are not sure about a course, ask your Teacher, ask other Teachers, ask the School Counsellors, and ask your family

(O2) is a unique program that helps to prepare students for a successful transition from high school to a potential career path(s)

• Provides students with several opportunities to learn in the community with three co - op work placements.
• Enhance student employability skills.
• Allows students to explore various career opportunities .

20 - Person COHORT:

An O2 cohort means students will be taking courses that are only offered within to O2 program:

• Career Development 10
• Community-Based Learning 11
• 3 CO-OP Placements
• All O2 courses are academic level.
• Students will also be together in Grade 10 English

• 80 hours for each placement:
• Equals 1 academic high school credit
• 2 Co-op placements in Grade 11
• One Grade 11 credit & one Grade 12 credit
• 1 Co-op placement in Grade 12

** Students who want to change placements must request the change before the placement begins.
