I did an internship with Patty Burns, my mentor at Kuya’s and I worked at the front of the house, which means you only work in the front of the restaurant, not in the kitchen. I learned a lot about how to open and run a cafe from Patty. I learned about the food and customer service and ways to have a successful cafe.

First day working at Kuya’s it is restaurant that I need to work and practice skill and Patty is my mentor she going to teach me how she open restaurant how she do all the thing.

Test some North African carrot soup it call chermoula. I need to learn about the menu and take the order paper to the BOH which stands for the back of the house.

Make sure equipment put in the right spot and organize

This is the Drink station and we make drinks over here. Patty told me about writing the day and name of the drink on tape and putting it on everything like water and food so it is easy for you to know what it is and how old it is. If it does not have the day on it people don’t know if it is good or not. She told me every time you touch like the nuts or everything you need to clean every time. Make sure you clean everything like spoon because it might taste soap.

This is a to go station it is where you put the order in the bag. Check the food it right or not and make it look nice like clean before it get out.

Macaroni salad I got to tasted this and it was so good.

Today I do some cleaning and laren a lot about manu she give homework for me that is answer the question in the paper that she have for me it help me learn more a lot and get to know how to count the money in computer.

I answer her questions about food. I watch a video on Youtube that Patty sent me. It is all about tea,coffee, and what food is easy to do at the same time and will sell good.

I try American food that I have never had before and Petty will ask a question like what it taste like or smell like.

I try a coffee from different cafe that Patty bring me go so I can compare it to the coffee at Kuya’s and I also try a cake that she makes. I bake peanut butter cookies.

This is screenshots of some videos that Patty sent me. Some days Patty sent me a video about cafe for me to write and listen. I like the one about the tea, coffee and what kind of food you sell that is easy to make and will make money. I used this to make my menu.

The notebook is for writing about what we want to do or done and a question that I did know about Patty will help me with it also she give a home work by write a question about what we already did or something need to know on the notebook so I can search than answer it.

Conclusion

If you could start over, I’m not going to change anything differently because it already what I want it to be and it was fun experience working at Kuya’s. Learning how successful cafe what it working like through senior project.
