ZHETYSU REGION

Zhetysu region is located in the southeast of Kazakhstan.
The population of the region is about 700,000 people.
The region consists of 8 districts and 2 cities.
The administrative center of the region is the city of Taldykorgan, located 250 km from the city of Almaty. The population of Taldykorgan is more than 145,000 people.
Taldykorgan is located in the center of Zhetysu on the banks of the Karatal River in the foothills of the Dzungarian Alatau at an altitude of over 602 m above sea level.
The climate of the city is continental. The average temperature in January is −11…−13 °C, in July 22…24 °C.
On the territory of the Zhetysu region there are 2 national parks: Altyn-Emel National Park and Zhongar-Alatau National Park.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov is a participant in two international projects funded by the European Commission research program Horizon

Central Asian Law: Legal Cultures and Business Environments in Central Asia

MOCCA: Multilevel Orders of Corruption in Central Asia

A 4-year research and training project. The aim of the project is to gain new knowledge and political understanding of the interrelationships between legal culture, governance and the business environment in Central Asia. The project is being implemented by 14 institutions in 11 countries of Europe and Central Asia

A 4-year research and training project. The aim of the project is to contribute to global and national efforts to understand and combat corruption by conducting interdisciplinary research on multilevel corruption patterns in five post-Soviet Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan). The project is being implemented by 8 leading European universities and 9 partners from Central Asia

As part of these projects, scientists from partner universities of Europe visited Zhetysu University, where they held a number of seminars and lectures for teaching staff, young scientists, and students.

The staff of Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov completed a scientific internship at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and Lund University (Sweden).The project participants also took part in seminars held in Lund and Istanbul, where they made presentations of their research.
