  • Work on and around railcars and locomotives
  • Heavy physical labor with uncoupling and coupling railcars, applying and releasing hand brakes, and lining rail switches.
  • Walk up to 5 miles a shift.
  • Work outside for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
  • Practice safe work habits and wear PPE.

  • Restock locomotives with all necessary materials, including drinking water, sand, and spare parts
  • Clean interiors and exteriors of locomotives
  • Perform air brake tests and inspect materials, equipment, and machinery for any defects or unsafe conditions
  • Operate locomotives.
  • Starting hourly at $23.96 up to $31.95/hr
  • Career path: apprentice to Journey Person Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Electrician

Car - App Freight Car Repairer

  • Inspecting, repairing and rebuilding freight cars during a three-year training program
  • Conduct inspections to identify defects, evidence of wear, and damages.
  • Perform maintenance, including initial terminal air brake tests and other pre-trip inspections
  • Fabricate, cut or perform rough finish operations on metal and wood replacement parts.
  • Starting hourly at $33.70 up to $40.96/hr
