Pedigrees

  • A pedigree is a graphic representation of genetic inheritance. It’s a way to apply genetics to family trees.
    • What do they show:
      • Males and Females
      • Family Relationships
      • Individuals that have or are affected by a trait being studied.
      • The way the trait is inherited (inheritance patterns).
    • A carrier for the trait MAY SOMETIMES BE represented by a half shaded in circle or square.
    • Deaths are marked by a horizontal line striking through the individual’s shape.
