Read the entire article. What was the main idea of the article, why did the author write this article? What information and details did he provide to support the main idea?

Week 5

Read the text Once A Panther Always A Panther and answer the following questions.

- Why was the group called the Polyensian Panthers?

- What does the word prejudice mean?

- Why did the older Pacific people put up with racism?

- How did the Polyensian Panther group begin?

- What were some of the things the Plyensian Panthers did that helped their community?

- Answer the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the Dawn Raids

Week 6

Group Session

Complete a KWL about Tapa Cloth, then read the text The Art of Aute. As a group we are going to recap the text, and then make connections to our own traditions and practices.

Can we find answer any of our KWL questions, did we learn anything?

Follow Up

Use the calico material to create your own version of Aute. Make sure that you think about your design and colour choice. Once finished you need to write at least a paragraph describing your aute, and the decisions that you made along the way, as well as how you traditionally collect the materials.

Research and answer any other ‘what we would like to know’ questions you weren’t able to answer reading the text.

Week 9

Group Session

Together read the text Tūto’atasi: The Struggle for Sāmoa’s Independence. Discuss facts and opinions within the text, what is a fact and what is an opinion.

Follow Up

Create an information poster about Sāmoa’s journey to Independence on google drawing. Make sure your canvas size is 210 x 297 mm. Here are some examples:

Week 10

Group Session

Together we are going to read and make connections with and between the text Badge of Honour.

What are the similarities and differences between the school and the text and Devon Intermediate.

The story ends without any real conclusion - what are some possible resolutions (endings) to the story - let's discuss these.

Follow Up

Take one of the possible endings to the text, use what you know about descriptive writing and finish the story.

Check back with our modelling book to look at possible endings and how the characters will respond to these.

Write the ending to your story in your online reading book, make sure yu have the dates that you work on it, and give it a title.
