CHRONICLES 2

CHAPTER 1: SOLOMON IS ASKS FOR WISDOM

• Solomon and the leaders off Israel go to the high place at Gibeon where God’s tent of meeting was.
• The Lord comes to Solomon at night and offers to give Solomon whatever he wants. Solomon asks for wisdom and knowledge to govern his people. Because what he asks for is righteous in the eyes of the Lord, the Lord gives him these things plus riches.
• Solomon then returns to Jerusalem, and Israel becomes very rich because of him.

CHAPTER 2: SOLOMON BEGINS BUILDING THE TEMPLE

• Solomon forces workers to build his temple.
• Solomon orders supplies for the temple.
• Solomon takes a census of foreigners living in Israel, and assigns them jobs.

CHAPTER 3: SOLOMON BEGINS BUILDING

• Solomon begins to build the temple on Mt. Moriah.
• Lots of Gold is involved, even gold nails.

CHAPTER 4: CONTINUED WORK ON THE TEMPLE

• The temple continues to be built.

CHAPTER 5: TEMPLE IS FINISHED

• The temple is finished,
• Gold and silver are placed in the temple’s treasuries.
• The Ark is brought to the temple.
• The glory of god fills the temple in the form of a fog.

CHAPTER 6: SOLOMON’S PRAYER

• Solomon addresses the people at the temple.
• Solomon prays to the Lord.

CHAPTER 7: OFFERINGS ARE MADE

• The glory of the Lord filled the temple and fire came down from the heavens.
• Solomon and the people offer sacrifices.
• The Lord speaks to Solomon.

CHAPTER 8: SOLOMON’S OTHER ACTIVITIES

• Solomon rebuilds surrounding cities.
• Solomon forces all surrounding peoples into labor, except the Israelites who make up the military.
• Solomon builds Pharaohs daughter a new palace.

CHAPTER 9: SOLOMON’S WEALTH

• The queen of Sheba visits Solomon, and they exchange gifts.
• Solomons revenues are recorded.
• Solomon dies.
• Solomon’s son Rehoboam succeeds him.

CHAPTER 10: ISRAEL DIVIDED

• Jeroboam and the Israelites petition Rehoboam to decrease their workload, since Solomon had worked them exceedingly.
• Rehoboam consults the elders and they tell him to decrease their workload.
• Rehoboam consults the friends he grew up with who tell him to increase their workload.
• Rehoboam decides to listen to his friends advice and tells Jeroboam and the Israelites he will increase their workload.
• The Israelites decide to secede from Rehoboam’s rule and Israel breaks into two kingdoms, the Kingdom of Judah and the Kingdom of Israel.

CHAPTER 11: REHOBOAM

• Rehoboam gathers an army from the house of Judah and Benjamin to go to war with the Israelites. But Shemaiah a prophet tells them to not fight and they obey.
• Rehoboam then fortifies the cities in Judah and supplies them.
• The Levite priests all return to Judah.
• Rehoboam marries several women.
• Rehoboam appoints his Son Abijah to be chief prince. He sends his sons to the different cities throughout Judah to govern.

CHAPTER 12: EGYPT PLUNDERS ISRAEL

• After Rehoboam had become strong, him and the Israelites turned from the Lord. Because of this the Lord sent Shishak King of Egypt to destroy Israel.
• Shishak captured many of the cities in Israel. However before reaching Jerusalem Rehoboam and the leaders gather with Shemaiah the prophet. They humble themselves before the Lord and Lord promises that instead of destroying them they will become subjects to Shishak.
• Shishak plunders the temples and carry off all the gold.
• Rehoboam eventually dies, and Abijah becomes King.

CHAPTER 13: ABIJAH DEFEATS THE ISRAELITES

• Abijah addresses the Israelites who broke away from the Kingdom of Judah. Telling them to repent and return to being ruled by the true leaders of Israel, those descended from David.
• Jeroboam attempts to surround and ambush Abijah while he is addressing the people. But the Lord is Abijah and they are able to defeat the Israelites.

CHAPTER 14: ASA SUCCEEDS ANIJAH

• Asa, Abijah’s son becomes King of Israel.
• Asa removes all the false idols and is faithful to the Lord.
• Asa goes to war with the Cushites and defeats them.

CHAPTER 15: REMOVAL OF UNBELIEVERS

• Azariah a prophet comes to Asa and complements Asa about his faithfulness to the Lord.
• Azariah calls all those faithful to the Lord, and decides that they are going to purify Israel of all the unbelievers by killing them.

CHAPTER 16: ASA DIES

• Baasha King of Israel attacks Judah.
• Asa makes an alliance with Ben-Hadad King of Aram. Together they defeat Baasha.
• Hanani a prophet in Judah at the time comes to Asa and tells him he has sinned because he did not trust in God when he fought Baasha, but instead made an alliance with Ben-Hadaad. Asa becomes angry with Hanani and imprisons him.
• Later Asa becomes sick and lets psychians treat hm, but does not seek help from the Lord. Asa then dies.

CHAPTER 17: JEHOSHAPHAT BECOMES KING

• Asa’s son Jehoshaphat becomes King.
• Jehoshaphat stations troops in all the cities of Judah.
• Jehoshaphat is a righteous King and the Lord blesses him. He becomes very wealthy.
• Jehoshaphat sends priests throughout the Judah to teach the people the laws of the Lord.
• The surrounding Kingdoms around Judah all begin to fear the Lord and do not make war with Judah.

CHAPTER 18: JUDAH ALLIES WITH ISRAEL

• Jehoshaphat makes an allegiance with Ahab King of Israel through marriage.
• Ahab then petitions Jehoshaphat to go to war with him against Ramoth-Gilead, and Jehoshaphat agrees but says they should seek counsel from the Lord.
• The King of Israel calls upon his prophets and they all agree that they will be victorious in battle accept one Micaiah. Ahab then puts him in prison.
• They then go to war and Ahab even disguises himself. Jehoshaphat has success in battle, but Ahab is shot with an arrow.

CHAPTER 19: JEHOSHAPHAT APPOINTS JUDGES

• When Jehoshaphat returns to Jerusalem, Jehu one of the Prophets rebukes him for aligning with Ahab even though the Lord prophesized against him. But he still says Jehoshaphat is righteous.
• Jehoshaphat then fortifies the cities of Judah, and appoints judges.
• In Jerusalem and chooses Priests to administer the law and Judge.
• Amariah he chooses to be the high priest.

CHAPTER 20: THE LORD FIGHTS FOR JEHOSHAPHAT

• The Moabites and the Ammonites come to make war on Jehoshaphat.
• The Lord promises Jehoshaphat that he will fight for him.
• The Lord sets ambushes for the Moabites and the Ammonites, and turn them against each other.
• When the Jews arrive at the battle scene they find their enemies are all dead, and they plunder them.
• The fear of the Lord falls upon the surrounding kingdoms after hearing how the Lord fought for the Jews, and there is peace.
• Jehoshaphat makes allies with Ahaziah King of Israel and they build a fleet of ships. But because Ahaziah is wicked the Lord destroys the ships.

CHAPTER 21: JEHORAM’S REIGN

• Jehoshaphat dies, and his son Jehoram becomes King.
• Jehoram kills all his brothers, and does evil in the eyes of the Lord.
• The surrounding kingdoms rebel against Jehoram. The Philisitines and Arabs plunder Judah and kill all Jehoram’s sons except his youngest son Ahaziah.
• Jehoram then dies of bowel disease.

CHAPTER 22: AHAZIAH’S REIGN

• Ahaziah becomes King.
• Ahaziah also does evil, due to the advice of his father’s counsellors.
• Ahaziah makes alliances with Joram king of Israel.
• While visiting Joram, Jehu brother of Jehoshaphat comes and kills Ahaziah.
• Athaliah mother of Ahaziah then takes the throne and attempts to kill the rest of the royal family.
• Ahaziah’s sister Jehosheba hides away one of Ahaziah’s sons Joash, with her husband Jehoiada.
• Athaliah rules for 6 years.

CHAPTER 23: JOASH ANOINTED

• Jehoiada organizes the leaders of Israel to support Joash as king. They agree.
• Joash is then appointed as King at the temple.
• When Athaliah hears of this she comes to the temple. Jehoiada and the people put her to death.
• Then they tear down the false idols and destroy the temple of Baal.
• Then they take Joash to the palace and place him on the throne.

CHAPTER 24: JOASH’S REIGN

• Joash orders taxes to be collected in order to restore the temple.
• Jehoiada dies.
• Joash and the leaders of Israel quickly abandon the Lord and begin worshipping false idols.
• Jehoiada’s son and other prophets rebuke them, so Joah has them killed.
• The Aramean army conquers and plunders Judah and leave Joash injured. His officials then kill him

CHAPTER 25: AMAZIAH’S REIGN

• Joash’s son Amaziah becomes King.
• Amaziah kills the officials that killed his father.
• He then makes allegiances with the Israelites to go to war with the Edomites, and pays them. However a prophet rebukes him saying God is not with Israel. So Amaziah cancels his agreements with the Israelites.
• Amaziah then goes to war with the Edomites. Meanwhile the Israelites plunder Judah. When Amaziah returns to Jerusalem he sets up the Edomite idols and worships them. A prophet warns him he will be destroyed.
• Amaziah then challenges Jehoash king of Israel. Jehoash offers a marriage proposal instead between their families, but Amaziah refuses.
• Israel attacks Judah, defeats Amaziah, and plunders the temple.
• Amaziah continues to rule but eventually is murdered by fellow Jews because he had turned from the Lord.

CHAPTER 26: UZZIAH’S REIGN

• Amaziah’s Son Uzziah becomes King. He does what right in the eyes of the Lord
• He defeats the Philistines, the Arabs, and rebuilds many cities and fortifies Jerusalem, and has a well trained army.
• Eventually Uzziah tries to burn incense for the Lord, and the priests tell him he is not allowed. Uzziah becomes angry, so the Lord curses him with Leprosy
• Uzziah eventually dies and his Son Jotham comes to the throne.

CHAPTER 27: JOTHAM’S REIGN

• Uzziah’s Son Jotham becomes King
• He does what right in the eyes of the Lord.
• He conquers the Ammonites, and they pay tribute to him
• He has success and many other wars, and grows powerful.
• Eventually he dies and his Son Ahaz becomes King.

CHAPTER 28: AHAZ’S REIGN

• Jotham’s son Ahaz becomes King of Judah.
• He does evil in the eyes of the Lord and worships false idols
• Aram and Israel conquers and plunders them.
• Ahaz calls upon the King of Assyria for help but he does not help.
• Ahaz worships the Aramean Gods and builds false idols throughout Judah.
• Ahaz eventually dies and his Son Hezekiah becomes king.

CHAPTER 29: HEZEKIAH MAKES OFFERINGS

• Ahaz’s Son Hezekiah becomes King.
• He repairs the temple, and then makes many offerings to the Lord.

CHAPTER 30: PASSOVER

• Hezekiah send out envoys to different cities in Israel inviting the people to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover.
• Some people declined the invitation mocking the envoys, but some people came.
• The people that came to Jerusalem had a great celebration, unlike any since the time of David.

CHAPTER 31: OFFERINGS

• Hezekiah and the people destroy all the false idols.
• Offerings are brought to the temple and the store rooms are filled.
• The offerings are then redistributed.

CHAPTER 32: ASSYRIANS INVADE JUDAH

• Sennacherib King of Assyria invades Judah.
• Hezekiah cuts off the water supply so Assyrians can’t access it.
• Assyrian envoys come to address the Jews and convince them to surrender.
• Isaiah prays to the Lord for help. The Lord sends an angel to fight for them and destroys the Assyrians.
• Hezekiah becomes sick and the Lord heals him. Hezekiah becomes proud and ungrateful to the kindness the Lord had shown him so the Lord pours his wrath on him. Hezekiah eventually repents, and the Lord lifts his wrath.
• Hezekiah dies.

CHAPTER 33: MANASSEH

• Hezekiah’s Son Manasseh becomes King.
• Manasseh does evil in the eyes of the Lord and sets up false idols.
• Because of this the Lord brings the King of Assyria against hm and takes him prisoner.
• Manasseh repents and calls to the Lord, and the Lord has mercy and returns him to Jerusalem.
• Manasseh then rebuilds the palace and tears down the false Idols.
• Manasseh dies and his Son Amon comes to power. Amon does evil and worships false idols so his officials assassinate him. The people then kill the officials and make Josiah.

CHAPTER 34: JOSIAH’S REIGN

• When Josiah comes to power he destroys all the false idols.
• Josiah then repairs the temple.
• While repairing the temple they find Moses’s Book of Law.
• After the book is found the Lord becomes angered because the laws have not been followed.
• Josiah then destroys all the idols in Israel.

CHAPTER 35: JOSIAH’S DEATH

• Josiah celebrates Passover.
• Neco the King of Egypt goes to fight at Carchemish. Josiah tries to intervene. Neco’s archers shoot Josiah and he dies.

CHAPTER 36: THE DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM

• Josiah’s son Jehoahaz becomes King. The King of Egypt dethroned him three months later and made Jehoiakim King.
• Jehoiakim does evil in the eyes of the Lord. During his reign Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon attacked Judah and captured Jehoiakim and took him to Babylon.
• Jehoiakim’s Son Jehoiachin becomes king and does evil in the eyes of the Lord. Nebuchadnezzar then sends for him and brings him to Babylon, and his uncle Zedekiah king over Judah.
• Zedekiah does evil in the eyes of the Lord. He also rebels against Nebuchadnezzar, and Jerusalem becomes unfaithful.
• Nebuchadnezzar conquers Jerusalem and destroys the temple and palace, and brings the rest of the Jews to Babylon.
• 70 years later the Persian Empire led by King Cyrus conquers Babylon and frees the Jews.
