In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth

Genesis 1:1

This is truly the most important proclamation in all of religion, philosophy and science, because the concept of a specially designed creation of the entire universe including time itself is found nowhere else. This proclamation is foundational to all of the Bible and if we can grasp that God is the eternal and omnipotent creator, then we can come to an understanding that God Himself gives meaning to everything. As we wrestle with concepts such as sin, law, atonement, faith, love, salvation, we must necessarily come back to the profound reality that this creation is not by random chance, it is not impersonal undirected construct it is not vast amounts of time of guided or random mutation

The very concepts of sin law and atonement speak directly to order, intelligence and purpose.

The concepts of faith love and justification speak directly to a personal, caring, and compassionate being.

The concepts of salvation and eternal life speak directly to relationship and communication.

We serve a personal, loving, just, and purposeful creator. If we do not teach the truth of God’s creation as found in Genesis, than how will we teach anything else in the Bible? If people cannot understand the power of God and His ability to create how can they understand the other miracles in the Bible. The Genesis account of creation is very specific in timing and order, and design, and the foundational significance of this can not be calculated.

The order of God’s creation.

This slide contains just a few examples of the differences between these opposing world views. The order and timing of God’s creation is very specific and very different than man’s view of millions or billions of years. It is important that we understand this because in our schools we are being taught that billions of years ago a big explosion brought everything from nothing, and then suns and stars of burning gas came first and after that, molten planets formed that eventually cooled, at some point water concentrated out of the universe onto this planet, and then life formed from non life. This is so different then the Genesis account that we must ask, Is the Bible right or is man right?

Theistic evolution says that an intelligent force or being used billions of years of death and mutation as a tool to eventually form higher life forms, but the Bible says that Death came into the world as a result of sin, so if there was death and destruction for millions and/or billions of years before people, then it is not the wages of sin, as the Bible teaches, and the atonement provided by Jesus on the cross for our sin, would be irrelevant.

If the first Adam is not our common ancestor who brought sin into the world, then we have no need of a second Adam to free us from the wages of sin, namely death. Genesis tells of the original sin that brought the whole of creation under the curse and it was at this time that death was brought as the wages of sin. So a lot of this comes down to the question

Is the Bible the inerrant word of God? If so, we need to really dig deeper into it, not bury it under our text books.

In the New Testament we can confirm the validity and necessity of this History

John 1: 1-5 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. The Same was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. 4. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

So Jesus is the Word by whom all things were made, and He testifies to the validity of the Genesis account of creation. How can we trust Jesus if we don’t believe that He is creator.

This verse in John says that everything was made by Jesus who is the word of God, so the reason that we trust Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life is because we trust Him as the word of God, creator, light and life.

God created everything in 6 days

Genesis 5. And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
The Hebrew word Yom used in succession with the definition of evening and morning of each day, indicating a regular day.

But even though the Bible teaches that Jesus is the creator, still many people think that there is no way that God could create in six days, so lets get rid of the Genesis narrative of creation and keep Jesus as a religion without that foundational basis.

First of all the scripture is very clear that God created everything in six literal days. The Hebrew word Yom means day; and when used with then there was morning and evening, it means a regular day. The fact that this is repeated is an emphasis of this truth that God wants us to know. This is a special creation with design and purpose, it was created perfect and God said it was good. and God is communicating this truth to us in a way that is not confusing, it is actually very clear.

Can God really create in six days? Should we doubt that He can really do it. And as long as were at it, why not doubt what the Bible says about evil and Satan and demonic forces and what about a global flood judgement of all that evil, and what about confusing languages at babel, and what about gnats from dust during exodus, and truth from the mouth of a donkey, what about a virgin pregnant with the Son of God by the Holy Spirit? And what about Jesus rising from the dead? Should we doubt it all? Should we consider it all figurative poetic allegory….

So you see where I am going here.

If we cannot trust God’s word about creation, then we can easily doubt God’s righteous judgement and God’s love and God’s purpose and God’s miracles, and God’s plan of redemption through the offspring of Eve, namely Jesus.

I propose that God could have created in any amount of time or no time at all. God chose to create in 6 days, and He chose to make a day of rest on the 7^th. God sanctified this day of rest and it became our week on the calendar. It is significant to note that calendars mark positions of sun, moon and stars and their cycles for months years and seasons, but the 7 day week is from God, and the Sabbath rest is from God. This is in part to teach us the truth about creation. This is an authentication and commemoration of God’s work done in 6 days with the day of rest in which God said it is good.

Jesus explains in Mark 2:27 that The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. In other words, Jesus created in six days, and rested on the 7^th for mans benefit. He set the pattern, and He gave the example. This rest day is important for us to worship and remember God who created in 6 days.

After its kind…

Genesis 1:11 And God said, let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its kind

Genesis 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after it’s kind, cattle and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after it’s kind

So we have looked at the fact that God created in a certain order and in a certain amount of time and now lets look at how God purposefully designed everything very specifically and deliberately.

The Bible teaches that everything has a particular design, the living creatures each are precisely designed, and the broadest level is referred to as kind. This means that all of the genetic information for various genus and species were in the initial kind. So this goes for each of the animal kinds. There is no evidence for transitions from one species to the next, but there is ample evidence that each plant yielded seed after it’s kind and each animal reproduced after it’s kind.

In the Henry Morris Study Bible Commentary it says it like this. “The phrase, after its kind occurs repeatedly, stressing the reproductive integrity of each plant kind, land animal kind, air animal kind, and water animal kind. These were programmed for stable reproduction of each kind. This system is known today as genetic code, the complex information system in the DNA molecule. This allows for variation within kind, but no evolution of one kind into another kind let alone a increase in complexity. There is loss or damage to information over time that is observed and documented, rather than new information that increases complexity.

The Bible teaches that each created life form was not only designed but fully formed at the time of creation, and then it is able to reproduce after its kind.

Before it grew…

Mature creation or creation of apparent age.

Genesis chapter 2:4-5 4. These are the generation of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. 5. And every plant of the field before it was in the earth and every herb of the field before it grew

The emphasis here is the importance of understanding that the Bible teaches that the plants animals and people were created and did not have to develop over time; not even from seed or infancy. A mature and fully functioning creation with perfect genetic code and without death is very different than what is presented in evolution even so called theological evolution or guided evolution.

Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground. And breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. The Hebrew word Neshama is breath and Nephesh soul they are imparted to man directly as we read here; After God formed the man He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

This expresses the personal attention God gave to the creation of man who is made in the image of God and directly imparted life through the breath of God in his nostrils. When God created man in His image he made him as special part of creation that has a personal relationship with his creator, and that was given dominion over the earth and all other life. And God created a special person for him to be with in this created life.

Gender, marriage, life, stewardship, orderly society, responsibility, Dominion, Scientific method, truth

Genesis 2:21-25 21. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22. And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh.

This clearly teach two genders, which we also understand biologically. This is also where God institutes marriage. Jesus often refers to Genesis to teach the origins of knowledge. The fruits of a Biblical world view are numerous. The very building blocks of all of society include the God ordained family, government for protecting citizens, stewardship of creation, and moral law to name just a few

ButThere are many things going on in society around us that are fruits of evolutionary thinking. When generation after generation is taught man’s word instead of God’s word, then we see people taking action thinking that there is no objective truth, no purpose, no actual right or wrong. People do whatever is right in their own eyes and the result is chaos.

In Romans 1: 23 it says that man changed the glory of the un-corruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves.

God please give us the eyes to see this!

These are the results of denying God. These are some of the results of human philosophy and desire and sin. It is so easy to sin now, to do the things listed here is just normal in our society. Actually not just normal but praised, honored, taught, and called good. But how did we get here? But How were people convinced to sin against God in the first place.

Did God really say?

Satan was able to tempt Eve by getting her to doubt God’s word. And often, even in the church, that is still what we are doing. And we can see the results with growing abundance of apostate churches teach doctrines of demons. And we can see the results of our young people giving up on truth and righteousness and ultimately of God.

If we can’t trust this account of creation, the fact that Adam and Eve are the first created people made in the image of God, the reality that sin brought death into the creation,

And if we do not accept the genealogy of Jesus Christ that goes back to Adam, and the words of Jesus that quote the Genesis creation as scriptural fact, than what can we trust? And what are we teaching to our Bible students? Oh trust me, you Don’t need worry about the old testament and creation, Just trust Jesus.

Genesis is the foundation, and Jesus is the Word who was there from the beginning.

Listen, this is obviously not an exhaustive study

The intention of this presentation is to introduce or reintroduce you to Genesis as foundational to our faith! Please read it and study it to find out about all of the doctrines of Christianity.

From sin to salvation, from atonement to redemption, from the very special and purposeful creation of all things to the infinite and loving all powerful God that brings restoration through Jesus. The foundation is here in Genesis.

That is why Genesis is under continual attack, If generations of people can be convinced that this is not the true Word of God, then the rest of the Bible crumbles without a foundation.

God prophesied to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:14-15 14. And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thoiu hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.

These verses are known as the protevangel or the first Gospel. This is the good news of redemption that came through Jesus.

If we are not able to dig deep into scripture and connect the history and knowledge of what is going on in this battle of good and evil, than we can be easily misled into believing in a different Jesus and a different gospel than what is in the Bible.

If we deny the Genesis account of creation and instead of worshiping the God of creation that is clearly presented in God’s word, The Bible, and instead worship a god that has been created by man’s thoughts by mans ideas by mans technology by mans text books a god that guided billions of years of death as the main tool to finally come up with a person made in his image, than who is this god?

This is not the God presented in the Bible. This is not the Jesus presented in the Bible. If we do not believe Jesus is who He said that He is and who the Bible says that He is; The offspring of Adam and Eve and the Holy Son of God sent to destroy sin and death and to redeem God’s people Then what do we believe.
