The Japanese had planned the attack on Pearl Harbor, site of the U.S. Pacific fleet, for several months.

The surprise attack was launched on the morning of December 7, 1941.

The primary goal of the attack was to disable the U.S. fleet.

Japan also attacked Guam, Wake Island, and the Midway and Philippine Islands the same day.
