COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS

All Ontario high school students must complete 40 hours of community service as a graduation requirement, as outlined by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

It is recommended that students compete at least 10 hours a year!

​

All approved Community Service Hours include not for profit, charity or community.

​

Some examples may include working with the Parish Community, Cancer Society, Georgetown Breadbasket, Salvation Army, working with Youth or Seniors.  

​

If you are unsure if your hours are eligible, contact your Guidance Counsellor for approval.

ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL LITERACY TEST (OSSLT)

​

Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. 

Written by all Ontario students in Grade 10

Must earn score 75% to pass the OSSLT

measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects

  • summer school, night school and on-line day school courses can count towards this
  • very limited on-line day school courses until grade 11 and 12

PLANNING TO TAKE SUMMER SCHOOL

You are required to be online/in-class 5-6 hours each day with assessment pieces due each day.

Information regarding summer school enrollment will be given to students in April or May. 

​

If you are taking Summer School DO NOT CHOOSE THE COURSE on myBlueprint but choose an additional elective.

​

***Failure to complete a summer school course will result in the additional elective being removed from the student’s timetable, if THE COURSE is available.

For students planning to take Civics and Careers or another compulsory course in the summer, they will be allowed to select a 3rd elective for grade 10.

Remember that to be considered for the AP Program, it is strongly recommend that you must have at least 2 AP courses in your schedule.
