Physical Education

  • PE is a class during the day. It does not involve playing on a team or coming early or staying after school.

  • Students who are not in Athletics take PE

  • It’s a good idea to take both required semesters of PE in 7th grade because it frees up more electives in 8th grade, some of which may count for high school credit.

  • Off Campus PE-Students may apply for Off Campus PE if they are involved in an Olympic-type of sport such as gymnastics, equestrian, lacrosse etc..that require more than 10 hours of practice a week. Let me know if this applies to your child.

Athletics

  • Boys athletics include football, basketball and track.
  • Girls athletics include volleyball,basketball and track
  • Athletics is full year
  • 7th grade athletics take place before school and 1st period or after school and 7th period (check with your junior high attending)
  • Some sports require tryouts. All students enrolled in Athletics should be ready to participate in at least two in-class sports
  • Some sports require a physical from a doctor. Contact me for required medical form if you are going to your own physician
  • In May the district will offer low cost physicals at the CMLC for $15. More details to follow.

New for 2022-2023

  • Advanced will replace Pre-Advanced due to cost of using name
  • Class periods will be 45 minutes
  • Passing periods down to 3 minutes (they will have lots of practice)
  • .5 Technology HS credit (keyboarding)-is no longer required for high school graduation (2022-2023 Incoming 9th graders will be the last group)

Reminders/Keep in mind

  • Student ID badges -must be worn at all times (check out books, go to lab, tardy terminator machine etc..)
  • Tardy Terminators-students who are late to class will be locked out and need to go a tardy terminator machine to swipe their badges first (parents will get a phone call after each late swipe)
  • Lockers-buy a lock and practice over the summer…students may have 3 or more lockers (depending on the classes the electives selected)

High School News to keep in mind as you plan for your student’s next step

  • CPI Training RequirementTEC 28.0023- requires the SBOE by rule require school districts to provide instruction in CPR and receive CPR instructions at least once in grades 7-12 (districts or schools that receive state funds)

  • Financial Aid Graduation Requirement TAC 74.1023-Effective this school year all High school seniors need to complete and submit a free application for federal student aid (FAFSA) or free application for state student aid (TASFA) as a requirement for graduation-Public or chartered high schools in Texas

  • Dallas County Promise Program-Seniors at Berkner HS, Richardson HS, Lake Highlands HS are eligible and can have college tuition paid for through this program. Click here to find out more.
