Registration Process

​

• Registration will be conducted in person during 2nd block beginning February 3, 2025.

​

• Students will meet with their counselor to choose their course options and discuss post-secondary plans.

​

Future - Ready Core Requirements�Students entering Grade 9 in 2020-2021 and beyond

• English - I, II, III, & IV

​

• Math - Math I, Math II, Math III �(PLUS another Math aligned with the student’s post high school plans. Foundations of Math will fulfill this requirement for students that are not planning to attend a 4 year college upon graduation.)

​

• Science - Earth/Environmental, Biology, and a Physical Science- �Chemistry is optional & highly recommended for those attending a four-year college or university

​

• History - World History; American History OR AP US History; Civic Literacy OR AP Government; Economics & Personal Finance

​

• Health & Physical Education -1 credit; Successful completion of CPR instruction required also

​

• Foreign Lang. - 2 credits of the same language for admission to a 4 year college/university is recommended, but NOT for graduation

​

​

• Electives - 10 credits from either: CTE, Arts Education, or Second Languages. �Also, it is “strongly recommended” that students have a 4 course concentration from one of the following: CTE, JROTC, or Arts Education�

Promotion Requirements

• Must have 22 credits to Graduate

​

• Must have 18 credits to be classified as a Senior

​

• Must have 12 credits to be classified as a Junior

​

• Must have 6 credits to be classified as a Sophomore

Schedule Changes

• Much attention is given to careful course selection and creating a master schedule which allows the greatest number of students the best schedule possible.

NO SCHEDULE CHANGES WILL BE MADE �TO AP COURSES OR ELECTIVES AFTER MAY 1, 2025.

• It is strongly recommended that a student has earned an 85 or higher final average in the previous subject’s course to register for honors level courses.

​

• To be eligible to take AP courses, students are recommended to have earned an 85 or higher final average in the prerequisite course. For example, a student wishing to take AP Biology should have earned an 85 or higher in Biology.

​

• Changes will ONLY be made for the following reasons after drop/add:
• If a student failed a course required for graduation and is not rescheduled for that course.
• To balance the academic load of students and teachers.

NC Academic Scholars

• Overall unweighted GPA at the end of your Senior year must be a 3.5

​

• Science Requirement – must be Physics OR Chemistry

​

• In addition to the graduation requirements:

​

• Two levels in the same Foreign Language
• Four elective credits with a concentration recommended from one of the following:
• CTE
• JROTC
• ARTS EDUCATION
• FOREIGN LANGUAGE
• ANY OTHER SUBJECT AREA

​

• In addition to the previous requirements, 3 courses must be considered “higher level” which means that they carry 4.5 or 5 quality points and they must be taken during the Junior or Senior year.

​

High School Planning and beyond…

• Career and Technical Education Department at HCHS provides all students an opportunity to explore interests in multiple vocational areas.

​

• It is recommended that each student review the Career Clusters chart in the course guide and explore classes in a Career Pathway.

​

• Successful completion of a CTE pathway, allows students to take the ACT WorkKeys exam prior to graduation!

Career Development Services

Career Development is an integral part of our curriculum. Harnett Central High School has a wide-variety of ways that we help students develop their career interest.

Harnett Health Sciences Academy

• Prepares students to further their education �at a Community College in a Health Sciences program.
• Application and interview required.
• Open to Rising Sophomores and Juniors.

Public Safety Academy/ FIRE

• Firefighter Tech I, II & III- Offered on HCHS campus to all students ages 16 & older.

​

Public Safety Academy/ Law & Justice

• Law & Justice I, II & Public Safety - Offered to students with a law enforcement interest or consideration for such a career.
• Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Central Carolina Community College Courses @ HCHS�

FREE COLLEGE CREDITS!!!�

Rising Jrs. & Srs. who meet college readiness benchmarks can take college coursework during the school day at Harnett Central High School or at CCCC Campus in Lillington. �

These courses carry both high school and college credit.

Driver’s Eligibility

Students must pass 3 of 4 classes each semester and maintain satisfactory attendance to keep your driver’s license.

​

At the end of each semester, grades and attendance are reviewed. If a student has not passed 3 of 4 classes, his/her driver’s license will be revoked for a minimum of one semester (until grades reflect eligibility).

FLEX PERIOD FOR SENIORS

• OPEN TO SENIORS ONLY
• Available 1st block OR 4th block each semester �

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be in good academic standing
• Students must be able to provide RELIABLE transportation on a daily basis and must leave/report to campus at the designated time.
• A parent MUST sign a Flex Application & forms are due to your counselor at time of registration! Flex forms can be picked up in the Guidance Office.

Do you want to graduate early?

• Early Graduation is offered to students who have successfully earned 22 credits and meet NC High School Graduation requirements.

​

• Early Graduation requires an application to be signed by a parent and given to your counselor at time of Registration. Forms can be picked up in the Guidance Office at school.
