What will my day at Walters look like?

  • 6 classes a day

  • 4 different teachers in 4 different classrooms

  • 4 minute passing period

  • No recess

  • Same classes every day in the same order even P.E.

  • Dressing for PE everyday in the locker rooms

  • Students will take wheel classes, band, or core support

Sample Schedule - Regular Day

Tardy Sweeps

A tardy sweep occurs when a random class period is

selected, and at the start of that period, teachers lock

their doors. Any students who are still outside will be

picked up by staff and escorted to a centralized location. Their names will be recorded, and they will

serve a lunch detention.

Wheel classes last one quarter. Students take all four classes in the wheel.

Students stay in band for the entire year.

NOTE: Students in the RSP Program take Core Support instead of Wheel classes

P.E.

Expectations in Middle School

  • PE grades are based on students dressing out and participating in daily activities
  • Students are required to change into their PE clothes every day
  • PE clothes and a lock can be purchased from our PE teachers during the first week of school.
  • Loaner - PE uniforms that students can borrow if they forget to bring their own PE clothes

Lunch

Breakfast is offered every morning in our cafeteria

  • Time: 7:50 - 8:10 am
  • You can eat your breakfast in the cafeteria or in Patio 1

Once the bell rings for lunch, you decide where to go: Line up for lunch and/or do one of the following:

  • Visit with friends in Patio 1
  • Play sports: basketball, volleyball, or 4-square on the blacktop
  • Play soccer or football in the field
  • Visit the Wellness Center, game room, library, or check out a club.

** Eating is only allowed in Patio 1 or the cafeteria

School Counselors

School Counselors support the academic, social/emotional and career/college development of all students by:

  • Providing drop-in and short-term counseling (grades, friendships, family stressors, etc.)
  • Offering individual, group, and crisis counseling
  • Facilitating restorative conversations between students, preventing student conflicts from escalating
  • Connecting students and families with other mental health supports (YFS, Care Solace)

Wellness Center

The Wellness Center is a relaxing space where students can come and participate in de-stressing activities such as fidgets, coloring, building blocks and more.

This year, the Wellness center is open to 6th graders on most Mondays Tuesdays and Fridays during lunch.

  • Talk to your counselor - Get a slip from the office
  • Register for Homework Club (limited space)
  • Join an Intervention class - before or after school
  • Visit the school library - 7:50 am - 3:30 pm

  • Participate in fun activities
  • Explore Walters before the school year begins
  • Become familiar with the campus

  • Develop new friendships
