The Knights landing Community is located 20 minutes from Davis

Provide access to healthcare through a collaborative service and education to a multicultural and underserved community

These are the Student-Run Projects started and continued by Students for One Health at UC Davis. The Knight Clinic is the first One Health clinic in the country. Students and clinicians of both veterinary and human medicine work alongside each other to address the health needs of an underserved community located in Knights Landing, CA, which is just 20 minutes from Davis.

MOSAIC which stand for “Models of One Health Solutions in Action in Communities”, formerly known as One Health Nicaragua, is a grass-roots program started and continued by UC Davis veterinary students that focuses on community development, education, and empowerment through a One Health approach. They conduct risk assessment surveys, workshops, and research, then implement relevant projects based community needs. In the past they have worked in Sabana Grande, Nicaragua and various communities in Southern California.

They’ve worked with community of Sabana Grande in Nicaragua to address food insecurity by improving poultry health and management to increase meat and egg production

- 2018: worked with 4-H groups to educate youth and youth leaders about the importance of biosecurity through interactive talks and activities (e.g. using GloGerm and blacklights to simulate the movement of infectious agents)

- earlier this year, created pamphlets by request from USDA APHIS (as a result of the NDV outbreak in Southern California) regarding poultry health and biosecurity practices

- currently planning a project (in partnership with KLOHC) to provide chicken health recommendations to chicken owners in Knights Landing and Robbins

The One Health Symposium is in its 6th year now and is a one-day event held annually on One Health Day. We brainstorm hot topics in One Health under a cohesive theme, which changes each year, then recruit interdisciplinary speakers to serve on expert panels that engage with an equally interdisciplinary audience.

We also host lunch talks at the veterinary school on various One Health topics, host an annual Dog n Jog, which is a 5-10k jog where humans and canines alike can get some exercise, and coming soon we are hoping to start publishing a One Health Podcast.

2.Conducted Capacity building workshop for Awareness of University students aboit Outbreak of VIral Hemorrhagic fevers in SouthWestern Uganda.

1.Promoting Environmental Health and Sanitation around Mbarara University. The first phase of baseline study has been done.

2.Conservation of River Rwizi project. This will involve working with neighbouring communities in designing innovative interventions to stop river silting and drying up.
