The Draisienne was introduced in 1817 by Baron vin Drais while he was functioning as the Master of Woods and Forests in Baden, Germany. �
He developed it to allow himself to cover long distances on foot, but without �as much strain on his body. It was similar to a toy called a hobby horse, �but it allowed the rider to steer where he was going.
The Netherand's Nationaal Archief (National Archives) has a photo of a later invention, the amphibious "Cyclomer" that is said to come from Paris in 1932.
