Instructional Vision

Cane Bay Middle School students will approach challenges with confidence, actively engage in developing skills that support their ability to be critical thinkers and solve problems in academic and real-world environments.

This vision was developed with staff and families during the 2021-2022 school year. In 2022-2023 teachers worked together to align planning and data monitoring to our vision. This year teachers began implementing the District’s PLC+ model to continue supporting increased instruction for critical thinking and problem solving.

Academic Achievement

CBM Students continue to grow in their achievement as measured by state and local assessments. Our SC Ready data trends are above state and district performance requirements for Met/Exceeds for ELA and they fall just below for Math.

Our professional development for teachers has focused on increased collaboration around instruction of the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). PLCs ensure curriculum alignment, pacing of instruction, and reviews of student data to monitor progress.

Our attendance zone’s population growth and our school enrollment cap results in students coming in as space becomes available. In spite of this high transience rate, we have seen a significant increase in our iREADY Diagnostic Data in both ELA and Math. A steady increase in performance has been observed this year in all areas and among critical sub-groups of students, including students with disabilities, and our multi-language learners.

Academic Achievement

Another area where we have seen academic growth is in classroom performance. Student performance is approaching pre-pandemic levels and students are demonstrating increased work completion, studying for assessments and giving best effort. As a result of their hard work, student grade trends are improving with more students earning Honor Roll and earning academic and performance accolades for their achievements.

We celebrated our students first semester achievement at Awards Assemblies in January and will be holding similar events for students and families in May for the second semester.
