This means: You have 9 minutes per passage

which means you are on track if you finished those sections in 18 minutes or less

What should you do if you are not going fast enough?

  • Read 20 minutes of non-fiction per day
  • Complete practice tests
  • Practice substitution answers

10 of 19

60 minutes. 60 problems.

Timing Breakdown of Math Section

30 minutes. 30 problems.

This means: You have 1 minutes per question

BUT – not all questions should take you one minute, some should take more, and some should take less

Lizzie’s recommendation:

  • Read through the ENTIRE test
  • Circle questions that look familiar
  • X out ones that do not
  • Complete the ones that you have seen, use your guess letter on the rest

35 minutes. 40 questions

Timing Breakdown of Reading Section

This means: You have less than one minute per question

Lizzie’s Recommendations:

  • Which of the tests was your least favorite? Cross it out.
  • The genres always come in the same order, so you can choose to eliminate the #1, #2, #3, or #4 test, and they should be a similar passage each time.
  • Go and put your guess letter for all questions on the one you are skipping

Timing Breakdown of Reading Section

Lizzie’s Recommendations Continued:

  • Be strategic about which questions you answer. There are a lot of reading questions that say, for example, “In lines 30-35 the author shows…” They POINT you to the information

  • If you cross out a passage and finish the other 3 early, you could look for the questions that say this in the passage you crossed out for some bonus points.
