Directors Notes

My love for the stage started around age four. Most parents at some point or another believe their child is a natural performer, but little did mine know that my desire to “put on a show” was not just a phase. In high school, I embraced the sequined vest and jazz hands, performing in the highly acclaimed Twinsburg Great Expectations Show Choir and I soon realized that my true talent was best suited for the stage. In 1994, I began working at Mayfield High School with the Limited Edition Show Choir and on the musical productions. It was here, at Mayfield, I found my very favorite role to be that of Director. With such passion for the arts, it surprises most to find that my dedication to the students at Mayfield is a secondary job for me. Over the past 25+ years, I have been working in the steel industry, currently as Director of Sales for Republic Steel . Still, my work at Mayfield High School is the most rewarding and inspiring work that I believe anyone can do, but it certainly can not be done alone.

There are over 150 people involved in bringing this production to life. This process begins in the Fall when the rights are secured which gives us the license to perform a specific production. The show selection starts with my connection to the music and the story it tells. It is my goal to find a show that will allow for the largest cast possible, generate the most interest and provide the best theatrical experience for the students and those in attendance.

The Little Mermaid has been a beloved story by people of all ages since its 1989 Disney movie debut. In adapting the film into a live stage musical, you will notice significant changes and additions of musical numbers and events. Although this musical is not written with a children’s chorus, it was my vision to engage Mayfield elementary and middle school students in our musical program and we are thrilled to feature 44 young sea creatures.

Larry would like to thank his wife Vanessa and daughters Natalie and Sydney for their continued love and support. Special thanks to Brian Fancher, Vinny Polowy, Jenny Walker, Becky Hall, David Glowe, Flo Mastrangelo, Principal Jeff Legan, the hair & makeup team and all of the parent volunteers who contributed countless hours building sets, assisting with costumes, selling program ads, running concessions and assisting with tickets. We could not have done it without you!

Thank you for supporting the arts in the Mayfield community. Please enjoy the show!
