Every Tuesday morning the Year 6 students come to Te Reo Pākehā with me, Whaea Jude.
Oral Language:
We start our mahi with oral language activities to process information, express ideas, share personal experiences, work collaboratively, increase our English vocabulary and discuss opinions about certain topics - following the Rules for Talk.
Spelling:
Spelling is next with students learning new strategies to decipher words that can be included in their writing or become known for their reading. Some students will participate in structured literacy activities.
Writing:
Writing is where students either write independently or participate in collaborative writing and group work. Sometimes their writing will be done in their books and at other times, writing will be written in a single or shared google doc. Students will learn how to use these processes and strategies in their writing:
Writing will be shared on blogs at different stages of development to show the process of editing and crafting their stories.
Reading:
Reading covers 3 areas: guided reading, shared reading, modeled reading (read aloud) and independent reading. The students read a range of tests that includes fiction, non-fiction, poetry and they will be responding to visual and audio texts..
