Utilizamos las IMPERATIVE SENTENCES en inglés para expresar órdenes, instrucciones o sugerencias.
Podemos suavizar nuestras imperative sentences con ciertas expresiones como “please”, “...would you?” o “if you don’t mind” entre otras, para no sonar descorteces:
Wash your hands, please.
Be quiet, would you?
Close the door if you don’t mind.
Don’t be late
Utilizamos las IMPERATIVE SENTENCES cuando queremos expresar una orden, instrucción o una sugerencia.
Las oraciones imperativas tienen la característica de que usualmente el sujeto va implícito en nuestra oración (no lo escribimos). En este tipo de oraciones, nuestro sujeto implícito sólo puede referirse a dos tipos de interlocutores:
Adicionalmente, si utilizamos las oraciones imperativas así sin más, corremos el riesgo de sonar algo agresivos o poco educados (close the window!). Podemos suavizar nuestras oraciones imperativas en el afirmativo utilizando expresiones tales como:
Finalmente, si queremos expresar imperativos en negativo, basta con agregar el auxiliar “don’t” antes del verbo:
