Attendance Matters

High School Graduation

Nearly 90 percent of freshmen who miss less than a week of school per semester graduate, regardless of their 8th grade test scores.

Freshmen who miss more than two weeks of school flunk, on average, at least two classes—no matter whether they arrive at high school with top test scores or below-average scores. In fact, freshmen who arrive with high test scores but miss two weeks of school per semester are more likely to fail a course than freshmen with low test scores who miss just one week.

• They are the subjects that you need to complete in high school to be eligible to apply to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) and some other colleges.

Moving Into High School (In-person Event)

• The shift from middle school to high school can be filled with excitement, wonder and intentional planning as we prepare our young people for college, career and community life. How do we as a family prepare for the transition to 9th grade? In this interactive session, we will hold intentional space to bring our questions and hopes for our students as they matriculate into High School. We will share resources for incoming San Leandro High School families to support parents and we will have a space for eighth grade students to talk about their own hopes and concerns. We will share resources to support you and your scholar’s transition to ninth grade. Dinner will be provided. There will be raffle prizes for participation. Spanish and Chinese translation provided. Childcare provided for school age children able to use the restroom independently. All SLUSD Families Welcome! March 27, 2025 5:30-7:30pm - San Leandro High School-Cafeteria
