Letter to Firm
Dear whomever it may concern,
Our names are Mina Chae and Sarah Gu, and we are the Co-Treasurers for the Harvard Undergraduate Machine Intelligence Community (HUMIC), Harvard’s premier undergraduate AI club. We invite you to partner with us and sponsor this dynamic community dedicated to fostering the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI) talent. By aligning your organization with us, you will have the opportunity to connect with motivated students, inspire and influence the interests of budding researchers, and showcase your commitment towards advancing AI education. Join hands with us as we embark on an exciting journey to use this rapidly evolving and industry-changing technology for good. Together, we can make a significant impact on the future of AI.
We are currently planning our upcoming events and activities for 2024-2025, and we would be honored if your company could sponsor our club. Your support would allow us to continue providing valuable resources and opportunities for our members, as well as promoting your company to our network of students, faculty, and alumni.
In return for your sponsorship, we are offering a variety of benefits, including:
We would be happy to provide more information and discuss the specific details of a sponsorship agreement. Please let us know if you are interested in learning more, and we can schedule a meeting or call to discuss this further.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best,
Mina Chae and Sarah Gu

Our Initiatives
Future of Intelligence Fellowship (FIF)
The Future of Intelligence Fellowship is an 11-week long survey of deep learning fundamentals. At the end of FIF, students understand the basics of modern deep learning, have completed a ML project, and are skilled practitioners of common frameworks. The syllabus for this year’s series is here. There are currently 50 members in FIF, and many past FIF members remain active in the organization.
Project Incubator
In the AI project incubator, HUMIC sponsors innovative project ideas with compute resources, a learning network, and support from other ML practitioners. Projects span the ML space, from Natural Language Processing to Computer Vision to Reinforcement Learning (RL) to Generative AI. Featured projects from last semester include a Harvard course recommendation system, contributing to DeepMind’s RL library, and creating reinforcement agents for the drafting game Sushi Go Party! This semester’s projects include generating children’s books using LangChain and Stable Diffusion, creating a chatbot using GPT-4 to navigate Harvard resources, and detecting brain tumors using Convolutional Neural Networks.
Student Research
Each semester, HUMIC incubates research projects proposed and run through the club by members. Past research has included training a model to detect offensive jokes; and training a model to take Raven's Progressive Matrices tests, an intelligence test on abstract visual reasoning skills that is difficult for ML models. HUMIC also assists students in finding and completing research projects in collaboration with labs at Harvard. You can see a list of research published by current HUMIC members and alumni here.
Reading Groups
To engage in the latest ML literature as a community, HUMIC hosts reading groups a few times each semester. Past topics have included seminal papers such as Attention is All You Need (Transformers), The Lottery Ticket Hypothesis, A Simple Framework for Contrastive Learning of Visual Representations (SimCLR). We have also reviewed conference workshop papers for ICLR – one of the top AI conferences. Please see our website for more information.
Spring 2025 Projects
LegisLoom
Want to improve government? Don’t even know the name of your local state representative? LegisLoom is an AI tool that simplifies how people search for and understand legislative bills. Using cutting-edge AI and NLP, it allows users to easily find relevant bills based on keyword searches or ideas. It also generates clear, concise summaries of complex laws, making it perfect for students, legal professionals, or anyone curious about policy. This semester-long project will take you through building a real-world app that has a lasting impact on civic engagement.
MicroVision: Zooming into the Invisible World (Cell Colony Analyzer)
Develop a computer vision system to automatically count and analyze bacterial or cell colonies in petri dishes. This project would involve creating an algorithm to detect individual colonies, count them, measure their size and shape, and track growth over time.
Financial Machine Learning
Create an AI-powered financial advisor that predicts stock trends and provides insights into market movements! This project involves developing a machine learning model to analyze financial data (think stock prices, options, and more), spot trends, forecast prices, and help users make informed decisions based on real-time market behavior. You’ll bring together Python programming, data manipulation, and cutting-edge algorithms to make finance accessible, intuitive, and automated!
Self-Learning Assistant
Have you ever wanted to dive into a new field purely out of curiosity, but felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of resources available online? With countless platforms like YouTube, EdX, Medium, and more offering quality content in various forms, figuring out where to start can feel like a daunting task. The Self-learning assistant builds a structured and efficient learning path tailored to your interests, experience, and timeline.
