WELCOME TO THE NEW INTERFACE

Addressing Customer Issues: Content Strategy Preview

  • Two major customer complaints:
  • It’s not always easy to find what they’re looking for
  • It’s not always clear to them what has been added in terms of new functionality when there is a new release

The following section is designed to welcome customers to the changes in the new release, Scoutrol Primo.

First, a notification with a video link, followed by the contents of the What’s New video…

5 of 25

The following text and GUI Notification will be sent to current users of Scoutrol:

  • Primo is not a patch update to fix something.
  • It’s a leap forward.

  • You spoke and Scoutrol listened.

  • No more ambiguities about updates. New features will be visible and arrive with user-friendly video guides on your Scoutrol App.
  • For a quick demo on what’s new, view the following video.

If you signed up for the auto update from Scoutrol, you have already gone from Classic to Primo. If you don’t have auto update, please contact: primome@scoutrol.com to move up to Primo.”

Content Strategy—Personas

  • Vehicle Owners
    • Customers with a Scoutrol app on their cell phone or vehicle dashboard with built-in Scoutrol app
  • Vehicle Manufacturers
    • Vehicle manufacturers keen on value-adding to their vehicles with ease of parking perks

Personas—Vehicle Owners

The strategy to pitch to vehicle owners is what we’ve covered so far:

  • Notification Alerts prompting the new features launch and highlighting what’s in store for Scoutrol users.
  • The Notifications will appear on the app and vehicle dashboard interface with videos showcasing the new features and links to explore the Scoutrol CMS for—User Guides, Tutorials, Discussion Forums, and Tech Support

17 of 25

Personas—Vehicle Manufacturers

The strategy for vehicle manufacturers will be a value proposition sales pitch:

  • Primary Message: “Any driver can download the free Scoutrol app for parking guidance, but only a Tesla (insert favorite car brand here) offers their customers guaranteed parking spots that are the lowest priced, closest to their destination, and safest with .”

  • Tiered Pricing: “For your luxury brands, we have just the perk-- Not only will luxury customers have their choice parking, but they will also get to reserve it from the comfort of their vehicle.

Content Strategy—User Onboarding and Education Plan

For Intranet

    • I prefer using Confluence for its simplicity and ease of conversion to other formats

For External Consumption

    • I prefer a robust CMS that’s either built with Drupal or something like Contentstack—a headless CMS; bloomfire is a more daring option
    • The key is having enough space for downloadable guides, an exhaustive search engine, and a tentacled discussion forum for Dev, QA, Content, Field Ops, and customers to collaborate

I prefer documenting with Apiary until a better tool arrives

For Quiz Creation

I’ve used Captivate but wish for a less buggy tool in the market

I prefer Camtasia or WalkMe

For Flowcharts

I prefer Visio or Gliffy

For Images

I prefer SnagIt

Content Strategy—User Onboarding and Education Plan

User Guides will be polished elaborate versions of the primer I showed earlier. Rather than rely just on PDFs or text-centric websites, I opt for user-controlled Content Management Systems (CMS)

I recommend something like Bloomfire

  • Read the MRD, ERD, PRD, or at least the Architect’s notes to understand the scope and milestones of the project
  • In the absence of a clear project strategy, I would interview the Lead Developer, Marketing Manager, and Product Manager to nail down the deliverables and deadlines
  • Once the deliverables are somewhat defined, I will ask the Product/Project Manager for JIRA epics or stories. If none exist, I will create some for documentation based on the deliverables and due dates.
  • In JIRA, I will break down each deliverable by stories (or tasks to be accomplished) and split each story by the number of sprints (2-3 week durations to wrap up a set of stories/features) it would take to accomplish based on hours of labor designated to each story/feature
  • At the end of each Sprint a tracker report will be published by the Project Manager/Scrum Master to gauge the progress and gulf between the deadline and open stories

For scheduling a Documentation project,

I will do the following:

Content Strategy—User Path

Along with in-depth User Guide content to cover Overview, Installation, and Configuration information in the CMS…

Any GUI or context sensitive Help will be covered by Tutorial videos and interactive quizzes using Camtasia, Captivate, or even better newer approaches like WalkMe
