One reason why Islam spread rapidly across neighboring regions is due to the promise and appeal of salvation. Members of other belief systems, such as untouchables in Hindu society, were becoming disheartened with the suffering they were forced to endure based solely on birthright. The rapid rate at which Islam spread throughout neighboring regions, such as India, was fueled in part by the large number of converts who sought a new belief system that could offer them salvation. Therefore, Islam is considered a universalizing religion, it claims to be true across multiple cultures, places, and times.
