Aim:
We are trying to find out what is better to use between hand sanitizer and water and soap. We are finding this out because on the internet it says water and soap is better than hand sanitizer, then on another doc it says hand sanitizer is better than soap and water. We think that hand sanitizer is better because on the bottle it says it kills 99.9% of germs, and on the soap bottle it says nothing about killing germs.
Hypothesis:
We think our hypothesis is that the hand sanitiser is going to work better than water and soap because we are going to use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.
Method:
First we are going to wash our hands in hand sanitiser, then we are going to put one of our hands on a slice of bread. Then we are going to wash one of our hands in a variety of hand soaps and put that on a slice of bread. Then we are going to sneeze on one of our hands and put it on a slice of bread and see what one comes out the cleanest and moldiest.
Equipment :
1. Hand sanitizers
2. Packet of bread
3. Germs on your hands
4. Zip lock bags
5. Soap
Variables
Independent Variables: We are changing between soap and water and hand sanitizer on the bread and sneezing. | Dependent Variables: To see which one has the most germs we will grow the bacteria in the hot water cupboard and take photos. | Controlled Variables: Use the same hand (R). Same brand of bags. Same hot water cupboard. Same soap. Same hand sanitiser. |
Results:
Wednesday 7th of August. The results showed that the bread that had been sneezed on grew a lot of bacteria and the bread with the hand sanitizer and soap and water grew none.
Thursday 8th of August. This results are different because the sneezed on bread has gone real green and ugly. But the other breads turned into toast but still showed no bacteria. a213ws
Conclusion:
We found out that hand sanitizer kills the same amount of bacteria as soap and water. We have also done research about hand sanitizers and soaps. When we tested them on the bread they came out just the same way as we put them in. But the sneezed on one came out with lots of bacteria and germs on it.
Discussion:
Our first science fair project was which fertilizer makes calorie grow faster. The first few days we tested our calorie, we realized it needed to be in the sun, putting it in the sun, Te Mounga (the planting class) planted our plants in their garden. So with the help of our Teachers they came up with another science fair project for us. Which we had to figure out what worked best Hand Sanitizer or Soap and Water. We only had three days to come up with these results.
RESEARCH
We found out that soap and water and hand sanitizer is sort of the same but soap only takes germs off the surface of your hands and hand sanitizer eliminates germs from your hands. Also soap is much cheaper than hand sanitizer that means cheap stuff is the week stuff. Washing your hands with soap and water is first choice, especially if you have visible dirt on your hands. Hand sanitizer is great for when you can't get to soap and water, and it's actually more effective at eliminating germs because it kills them rather than just removing them.
