Guidance:

Thank you for coming to MSC to present your interest group!

This powerpoint template is designed to help streamline your presentation and to prepare you for some of our most commonly asked questions.

Feel free to restructure/redesign the template as you like!

The important thing is making sure to present the information requested.

Ideally, the information will answer the big WHO, WHY, WHAT, HOW questions on the following slides.

Presentation Timing:

Your presentation should be under 5 minutes, and absolutely no longer than 10 mins.

We will follow your presentation with a Q&A session, which can range up to 5-10 minutes.

You will then be asked to leave the room / Zoom while MSC deliberates and votes.

The MSC President will follow up with you regarding the outcome of our vote as well as any suggestions for improvement or further questions MSC has for your group!

Your Group: the WHY

Make sure you answer these questions:

  1. What is the need that you hope to fill with your group? Alternatively, what is the problem your group is addressing?
  2. What other organizations on campus address similar issues�There is almost certainly at least 1- if your answer is “none”, be sure to consider historic groups as well.
  3. Why is your group different? �(For example, a valid reason for our new EM interest group last year was that the old EM interest group leadership was not organizing events or responding to any communications)
  4. Have you reached out to these similar organizations to discuss your new ideas?

Your Group: the WHO

Make sure you answer these questions:

  1. What students (approximately how many, if you can provide an estimate number) are you targeting with your group?
  2. Who is your group leadership, including your faculty mentor?
  3. Group leadership required by MSC includes President, Treasurer, Secretary, or position with equivalent responsibilities. If your group does not have these, please explain WHY, and then WHEN and HOW you will fill leadership.

Your Group: the WHAT

Make sure you answer these questions:

  1. Specifically, what events/activities will your group be completing?
  2. What goals does your group have for this year?
  3. Do you have any multi-year goals?
  4. What is your estimated budget? �4a. Do you have any funding from outside of MSC?

Your Group: the HOW

The “How” addresses two aspects of the future of your group:

  1. How will your group support environmental sustainability? �Examples include but are not limited to offering carpooling to events, re-using decorations, maintaining a paper-free organization, and sourcing catering from sustainable restaurants.�(Reach out to the Sustainability Representatives from MSC if you need assistance with this question!)
  2. How will you maintain your group in the future?�For example, when and how do you plan to transition leadership?
