The Problem

Our challenge was to build a tool that uses Earth Observations, crowdsourced data, and models to provide warnings about potential impacts of forest fires along with mitigation measures.

  • In the United States alone, the number of heat waves per year has increased from 2 per annum in the 1960’s to almost 6 per annum in the 2010’s.
  • Length of the heat wave season has drastically increased from 20 days to around 70 days per annum within the same time period
  • The number of large fires between 1984 and 2015 has doubled in the western United States.

  • And IF you find yourself in a critical situation, enter your location to find the nearest helpline numbers!

The Future Scope

Given more time, we had the following features in mind

  • If you allow your location to be shared, we would like the website to be able to automate so you do not have to enter your location to use the website
  • Using ML-AI, to help you recognize first-degree, second-degree, third-degree burn images to give you immediate first-aid for the same.
  • A charity feature for people to donate and help places affected by forest-fires around the world.
  • Create user profiles so users can stay signed in and get notified about alerts and high-risk areas near them. This may also be pulled over to the blog.
