FOUR TYPES OF BRICK’S IN MARKET

  • 1 Ground mould brick’s:-Fired/Heated in temporary clamp’s shapes are irregular.
  • 2 Table Mould Brick’s:-prepared on table and fired /heated in kiln’s.
  • 3 Machine Mould Brick’s:-fired/heated in continuous kiln’s are also known as wired cut brick’s.
  • 4 Pressed Brick’s:-These are made under pressure and are mostly used for decorative brickwork.

DIMENSION’S OF A BRICK

  • Brick’s are made in traditional size and also in metric size or as prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standard’s.
  • Depression on top of brick or the grove on top is known as the “FROG”
  • This FROG provides the space to MORTER necessary for bond within 2 Bricks.
  • The FROG is always placed facing upward during brick wall construction.

  • Weight of a brick is 3.00 Kg to 3.50 Kg Depending on its denseness{density}
  • Unit Weight of brickwork is 18 to 19 KiloNewton/metrecube o 18.8 k N/m³ to be exact in SI Unit and1800Kg/m³ in MKS

QUALITIES OF A GOOD BRICK

  • The edges of the brick should be sharp & clear
  • The colour of the brick should be uniform and red
  • On banging two brick’s it should give a metallic Sound
  • The weight of a brick should be 3.00-3.5 Kg
  • The compressive strength of a brick should be around 102 kg/cm³ for first class Brick.
  • Water Absorption of a brick should not be more than 20% of it’s weight.
