Howl's Moving Castle

Miyazaki captures the attention in this movie by creating an irregular moving shape that looks like a enormous dirty laundry basket with chicken legs. Your first impression might not the best by just looking at it for the first time. However, as the movie progresses, you start to notice a lot of elements such as houses, balconies, an entire city that moves.

I believe that the point of this art is making the audience see some beauty in something does not look like any common figure you will see in any other movie.

Timothy Walter Burton is an American filmmaker and animator. He is known for his gothic fantasy and horror films such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood.

I love his movies because they can bring a creepy but sweet story along the way. It is incredible to see how much passion he puts in his work.

My design emphasizes entertainment and puzzles. I want the viewer to be curious about my design and try to move a mini ball through a challenging maze. My way to get people’s attention is through an irrational form of letters that make a path to the end of the maze. A fun experience is something hard to forget and a puzzling game waits for you to give it a try.

Concept Statment

In this series of design, I chose to use triangles to form the shape of a bird. My vision was on making a focal point (the pick or head of the bird) to capture the attention of the viewer. Bird colors are extremely beautiful and sometimes even rare. In this design I would like to express my love to the Blue Jay bird by making variation of blues.

Nature Study Intro/Notes

Project 5 Home

I loved to see the unity between every page on this nature study. We usually think about eating an apple but this nature study shows the relationship and patterns that are similar to the interior of an apple. The colors and pictures are well balanced on the magazine.

The thematic of this nature study blew my mind. The project shows that it was well planned and it also engage the viewer into a detective series to find out more about the suspect and everything it has to do with the case(nature).

This nature study remind me of the Sponge Bob cartoon, one of my favorites when I was a child. The colors and design of the frames are what I like the most in this project. They show unity between all the pages. It is interesting to see the variety of pineapples that is shown.

Study Notes

I have always like flowers and I am very interested in this particular type called Hyacinth. Its shape and vibrant colors caught my eye.

Birds are the definitely animals worth to study. I took this picture and now I get to see how much beauty there is in a Cardinal’s wings, colors and structure.

My favorites animals are the penguins and even though I do not see them very often, I simply love their colors and way to walk. The are majestic creatures to me.

Design Analyses

Design, composition and layout are about selecting, altering and putting together the parts of an image or composition so that there is sense of unity or wholeness, a sense of variety and contrast, a hierarchy of focal areas and an expressive voice or content.

A design analysis involves looking at compositions that others have created to see better how to put together a unified image or structure.

We want to observe compositional tactics so that we can borrow and build on them in our own designs.

These Analyses in Google Slides provide compositions - artworks - to analyse. You’ then respond to some questions about the compositions and work to convey what you see going on.

You’ll (usually) copy an assigned blank analysis into your own Semester Portfolio -- which is where you will keep and present your analyses.

Setup Instructions

EDIT CONTENT ON THIS PAGE TO REPRESENT YOU

The first challenge is to look “behind the work” to see what’s holding it together.

Ask yourself questions that prompt you to notice what you would not otherwise notice -- have a collection of critique and analysis questions.

Unity:

-- What traits or feature occur and recur (repetition)?-- What traits dominate or are very prevalent?-- What organizes the placements? (symmetry, grid, radial pattern, a flowing connection or bounding shape?)

Variety:

-- Where are prominent contrasts? What kind of contrasts are there? (tone, color, shape, direction…)

-- Are there any anomalies that break prevailing patterns or dominances?-- Is there a sense of energy or movement? What creates that?

Emphasis/Focal Areas:

-- Where does your eye go, and why?

-- Where are major contrasts-- How has calm and relief been established?

-- What directional devices point the way?

Content:

The second challenge is to communicate what you see.

You’ll be able to write/type your comments in the slide -- usually there is a text block on the left side.

You are also welcome to add you own text blocks or to paste images of your handwritten notes.

Wherever possible, communicate graphically -- show us what you see.

Highlight or overlay features that you are pointing out -- don’t assume we know which details you’re talking about. Wherever possible - show us.

There will be some pre-drawn “spare parts” at the bottom of the slides. You can copy, move, resize and recolor these as needed.

Feel free to duplicate a slide if you need more space to explain something -- its generally better have a clear focused message on each slide, rather than trying to fit it all in on one cluttered slide.

You can use the various line and arrows tools in GSlides to point out details, or connect you comments to particular graphics.
