Big Idea (WHY)	Our students deserve a learning culture that promotes deliberate career exploration and navigation (Wayfinding) based on students’ strengths, interests, and values that culminates in a seamless transition upon graduation into gainful employment in growing priority sectors, both regionally and globally. Students know who they are, what they are interested in, and how to get a job.

How might we develop a career development program at the middle school level that positions all students to engage in internships/apprenticeships/entrepreneurships as they matriculate into high school? How might we work with industry partners, community colleges and universities to redefine the graduate profile that culminates in gainful employment in a career lattice with advancement options? How might we reimagine the alternative high school model that leads to career pathways that culminate in industry level certifications (auto, health, welding, etc.)?

Finding one’s way in life has never been an easy task. However, nothing in our collective past can compare to the challenges confronting young people today. Forces beyond the control of individual students and families present obstacles that are materially different from those of past generations.

The weak labor market for young people and job loss through automation are only two of the roadblocks students like [Name] must overcome.

We must also consider what it is employers are looking for. Content knowledge—-and knowing how to apply it to the workplace--is still essential, but so are a host of other personal and workplace skills like initiative, adaptability, and teamwork. It’s an employers’ market, and these are the skills they are seeking. Unfortunately, these have not been emphasized in [Name]’s education.
