Lake Travis Scholar

To receive recognition as a Lake Travis Scholar, a graduating senior must:

1. Complete the Foundation Program with the Distinguished Level of Achievement

2. Earn at least three advanced measures through one of the following means:

    • Scoring a 3 or higher on at least three Advanced Placement (AP) examinations
    • Completing 3 University of Texas OnRamps courses with a university letter grade of C or higher
    • Completing any combination of qualifying AP test scores and OnRamps university grades to meet the three advanced measures requirements.

3. Earn a fourth advanced measure through one of the following means:

    • Completing one or more dual-credit college academic course(s) with a college letter grade of B or higher
    • Completing a fourth UT OnRamps course with a university letter grade of C or higher
    • Scoring 3 or higher on a fourth AP examination
    • Earning a score on the PSAT that qualifies the student for National Merit Scholar, finalist, semifinalist, commended, higher recognition, or National Hispanic Scholar recognition.

4. Maintain an overall weighted numerical grade average of 90.00 or higher.

5. Earn 100 community service hours through the CAVS in Service Program.

Focus-Points for Sophomore Year

  • Grades!!! Continue to complete challenging courses and maintain good grades.
  • Become familiar with standardized tests you will need to take. Practice!!!
  • Start exploring careers using Naviance
  • Look for leadership roles in clubs and activities
  • Start thinking about what college/career choice may be right for you. Job shadow when you can.
  • Continue your involvement in employment, extracurricular activities, and/or volunteer work.
  • Start your resume.

GPA: Weighted & Unweighted

  • Two GPA’s are listed on your transcript:
  • Weighted GPA: average of grades on a 100-point scale.
  • Unweighted GPA: average of grades on a 4.0-point scale.

  • The GPA (Weighted and Unweighted) is based off of the Semester grades, not the final average.

  • Multiplier points (“bump points”) are not visible on the transcript. Codes indicate the weight of the course.

  • GPA is accessible in Skyward “Grading” tile. Click on the GPA tab to access Cumulative GPA.

Grades and Ranking

  • For college applications, students submit their 6-Semester Transcript, which ends at their final grades of junior year.
  • LTHS is a non-ranking school except for Top 10% as required by State Law.
  • Schools with Fall or January 1 application deadlines will likely not see your senior grades for admission, but they will see the courses you are enrolled in.

  • Lake Travis High School is a Non-Ranking School

Rank is calculated for in-state public Top Ten% Automatic Admission purposes only. If a student ranks in the Top Ten%, then his/her rank will be reported only to in-state public universities to which the student applies. Otherwise, rank is not reported to colleges for admissions purposes.

  • Naviance is a web-based platform that

helps students plan for college and careers after high school. Student can enter site directly through Classlink. Parents also received an email to log in to view all of their students progress

  • It provides resources and tools to help students:
    • Explore career paths
    • Research colleges
    • Search for scholarships
    • Take self-assessments
    • Complete a resume
    • Engage in virtual or in-person college visits

  • Look for the College tab and then choose College Visits-

this is where upcoming college visits are listed. Students sign up directly on this link for visits with rep.

  • Click Super Match College Search students will complete selections to narrow down college choices based on interest.

  • Students can also search directly by college name by selecting College Look up and they can compare colleges within the site by selecting College Compare

  • Students can Favorite colleges to create a list and parents can view and research the schools their students have favorited.

Facts about “Test Optional”

  • Colleges need to see college readiness in Math and English, so an assessment is necessary for admissions and registering for classes.
    • Students should research & contact Universities for their policies

  • Remember- some scholarships may require SAT/ACT test scores

  • TSI- Texas Success Initiative: An alternate college readiness exam that covers Math, English, and Reading. Can be taken for free through ACC.

National Recognition Program Awards

  • These are awarded to sophomores and juniors who have a B+ GPA and score in the top 10% among the PSAT test takers in their state.

  • There are 2 different awards, which are both determined by College Board & Big Future. Students are contacted in the spring if they qualify for either award

School Finance Bill HB3 passed in 2021:

Requires all high school students to complete the

FAFSA or TASFA as a state graduation requirement.

  • Students must complete FAFSA to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs. This is also includes grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and loans.

  • Students will also have the opportunity to Opt Out by completing a form their senior year.
