The Basics

  • You are planning your schedule for the entire 2022-2023 school year
  • Your transcript was emailed to you earlier this week - please review it
    • This four-year course of study planner is a helpful tool to help you keep track of what credits you have earned and what you still have left to complete - please make a copy of it and keep it in your Google Drive
  • Choose a schedule for yourself that is both challenging and manageable
  • Keep in mind your plans for the future when selecting courses
  • Final schedules will be available before schools starts in August

Core, Elective, and Alternate Courses

  • Select a total of 8 credits (including core and elective courses) that you would like to schedule for next year.
    • Alternate Courses - Select courses that may be substituted if one of the original 8 credits you selected is NOT available.
      • Use THIS FORM to communicate with your counselor about priority courses and/or preferences.

***The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Admission maintains minimum standards for entrance into the Massachusetts State University System. To be eligible for admission, students will need to complete 4 courses of high school mathematics and 1 course credit must be completed during their senior year. Based on these minimum requirements students need to complete either:

  • *Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and 1 full credit beyond Algebra II your senior year
  • *Geometry, Algebra II, and 2 full credits beyond Algebra II (one must be your senior year)

World Language

Spanish Program

  • Students have the opportunity to study Spanish, even if they have yet to take a language class. Courses are offered at a variety of levels to meet all students where they are.

French Program

  • Students have the opportunity to continue learning French in a traditional curriculum.

French Immersion Program

  • Students who have been enrolled in the French Immersion program will continue on their journey taking classes designed for the Immersion students.

Selecting Courses - Reminders

  • All students must select a total of 8 credits - choose core courses first!
  • Select at least 2 alternate electives - different than the courses you chose under electives.
  • Select a Wellness course
    • Current 9th graders will automatically be enrolled in Wellness 10
    • Current 10th/11th graders must select a Wellness course and an alternate Wellness course

Scheduling Timeline

  • PowerSchool portal opens on Monday, March 21
  • PowerSchool portal closes on Thursday, March 31
  • School counselors will be meeting with all students on Tuesday, March 22nd and Wednesday, March 23rd to discuss course requests - you will be called down
  • Feel free to set up a meeting with your counselor if you need more time or have additional questions!

Override Process

  • Re-read course description and level descriptors located in the Program of Studies
  • Select the course for which you were recommended even if you intend to complete the Override Process
  • Student submits Override Form no later than Tuesday, April 5th
  • Parent/guardian submits Override Approval Form - will be emailed to parent/guardian after Override Form has been submitted
  • Students are strongly encouraged to have a conversation with recommending teacher to ensure an understanding of course levels and expectations
