Professional Media Production on the Web

• Last month: presentation from Grass Valley on challenges building browser-based video editors (Minutes)
• Topics:
• Professional codecs, e.g, AVC-I
• Content protection
• Original vs proxy media editing
• Web Codecs and decoded frame buffering
• Access to timecode, Active Format Description (AFD) metadata, captions
• Real time video processing (WebGPU, WebGL, Canvas, MediaStreamTrack Insertable Streams)
• Timing and synchronization, frame accuracy (WebCodecs issue #122)
• HDR and WCG (Color on the Web CG)

Professional Media Production on the Web

• What next?
• Aim: Bring together Web and media production communities
• Proposal: Organise a W3C Workshop
• Open to anyone, doesn’t require membership
• Pre-recorded presentations (typically 10-15 minutes each)
• Two or three 2-hour open discussion meetings
• Invite people and companies active in media production groups (e.g., SMPTE, EBU)

Rechartering MEIG

• Current charter expires April 30th 2021 - Propose to renew for 2 years
• New charter draft - Changes:
• Removed Media Timed Events TF, which has led to WICG DataCue
• Added Media Integration Guidelines
• CTA WAVE project has overlapping interests, avoid duplication
• More focus on tracking issues from media industry use cases and bring to relevant W3C groups
• Need input from members on priorities - what are the pain points?
• Proposal: Reach out to members (and potential member companies) in parallel with rechartering
