Rather than edit your partner’s paper for small things like spelling or punctuation, here is what I would like you to try as a peer editor:

  • suggest structural changes
    • altering paragraph length
    • dividing the paper into sections
  • find areas in the paper that could be shortened or eliminated entirely
  • find areas in the paper that need expansion or more research
  • suggest improvements to the thesis, title, or dek
  • suggest ways the paper could read more like an informative magazine article

Grade your rough draft using the research paper rubric, being brutally honest about where your rough draft currently might fall on the rubric. Read the descriptions in each row carefully to determine where your rough draft might fall.

As you work, create a to-do list with reminders of things you need to do in order to get your final draft to fall in the 100% column on each part of the rubric.
