How Does Medicare Work?
Once you are eligible for Medicare, you can enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B for coverage. Medicare can be used across the country if the provider accepts Original Medicare. Medicare will cover any medically necessary service to treat, diagnose, or monitor a health condition.
What Does Medicare Cost?
If you worked at least 40 quarters or ten years in the U.S., you qualify for premium-free Part A. However, if you worked less than 40 quarters, you could pay $274/month or $499/month, depending on the number of quarters you worked.
You can qualify through your spouse’s employment history if you’ve been married for at least one year, and they are at least 62 years old.
Medicare Part B has a base premium of $170.10 in 2022, but you will pay more if you are a high-income earner.
